Day 3/3! I did it! Thrilled with the learning experience in @austincoudriet workshop at @parkdalepottery. I mostly throw on the wheel, and in preparation for this course I began focusing on hand-building the last few months with @lorenkaplan. I have never built an internal structure before! Looking forward to refining the shape and glazing in the upcoming weeks/months. There's something super special about pottery communities that I haven't found in other art forms. That sense of collaboration, camaraderie, instant friendship - I already miss this amazing group, but hopefully we will get back together soon! by @mahlashapiropottery

Andreas Makaras, world renowned 5th generation Greek potter. I had the incredible opportunity to meet him in his studio, with his wife who translated for me, saw his raku work, and decades of his practice. He made Santorini his home, and meeting him was a day I’ll always remember with a smile! by @mahlashapiropottery

Today I slowed down, and brought my meditation 🧘‍♀️ with me to the wheel. I came into the studio with the plan to only make this one piece: a 🏺 object with a thinner longer neck. Learning as I go, taking direction and advice along the way. Built four internal support structures, and learned that in working this size it is unnecessary, so I cut them all out. Learning to take more time, breathe deep, and attempt to work at a slower pace, to be more delicate, the refine the inside and pay it as much detail and attention as the exterior. Making this piece has been a helpful component of my recovery ❤️‍🩹 from surgery. I’m deeply grateful to all the people who helped make this possible. @austincoudriet who taught me the skills and answered a few structural Qs along the way, to @lorenkaplan for lifting my beast from the car to the dolly, up the lift 🛗 and onto the table and most of all slowing me down, to @michellemendlowitz for helping me understand how to sort the top of the form, to @jfinkleman @n.a.mosh and Lorne for helping get it to the studio today, and to you- for joining me on my recovery ❤️‍🩹 journey. My surgery was 3 weeks and 2 days ago. It took time to get off the morphine, and to transition from the knee scooter exclusively to the crutches and now weight bearing with one 🩼.
