Did you know?

🇲🇽 September 15 is the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month!

Here are a few facts about Mexicos history to get you prepared!

Next Saturday the 23rd we will be continuing to battle brown hate at another Saturday Night Open Mic!

🇲🇽 September 16 officially marks 213 years from when the first church bell gave the call to arms that triggered the Mexican War of Independence.

🇲🇽 The Mexican War of Independence (16 September 1810 – 27 September 1821) was an armed conflict and political process resulting in Mexico's independence from Spain.

🇲🇽 Not all Hispanics are Mexican!

🇲🇽 Every year on the eve of Mexico's Independence Day, the President re-enacts the cry from the balcony of the National Palace in Mexico City, while ringing the same bell used in 1810.

🇲🇽 During the patriotic speech, the president calls out the names of the fallen heroes who died during the War of Independence and he ends the speech by shouting "Viva Mexico!" three times followed by the Mexican National Anthem.

🇲🇽 Many Americans enjoy smashing a few Margaritas and Modelos to celebrate Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 commemorated as "Cinco de Mayo"

🇲🇽 Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day

🇲🇽 A larger French force ultimately defeated the Mexican army at the Second Battle of Puebla and occupied Mexico City.

🇲🇽 However, following the end of the American Civil War in 1865, the United States began lending money and guns to the Mexican Liberals, pushing France and Mexican Conservatives to the edge of defeat.

🇲🇽 At the opening of the French chambers in January 1866, Napoleon III announced that he would withdraw French troops from Mexico. taken in The Brewer's Arms by @mahz1
