Bebe Moore Campbell (my mommy) founded NAMI-Inglewood in a predominantly Black community to create a safe and supportive space where Black individuals could openly discuss mental health concerns and seek resources without stigma.As a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, Campbell’s work gained national recognition. On June 2, 2008, the United States Congress officially designated July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. The observance was established to raise awareness of the unique mental health challenges faced by underrepresented and marginalized communities and to promote greater access to culturally competent mental health care across the United States. by @maia_campbell

Maia revealed that she began struggling to regulate her emotions as a child. She was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her early 20s but had difficulty maintaining a consistent medication regimen. Things took a turn for the worse after her mother BeBe passed away from brain cancer in 2006, leaving her consumed with guilt over not being by her side in her final days.
