Ever full of surprises 💞 I don’t think it’s an overstep to say I believe Megan has even surprised herself over the course of this residency. She has undoubtedly blown me away with her magic, over and over…

Megan Curtin grew up in St. Louis and earned a BFA in Animation, and a BA in Art History from Kansas City Art Institute. She currently lives and works in Nashville where she is an Art Director at a children’s education company.

Her ceramic work explores themes of femininity, power and symbolism - drawing connections between historical forms and contemporary visual language.

Sister Vessel with Lid

--

Tomorrow is the final art crawl of this six-month residency @juliamartingallery and I've been feeling especially grateful as I look back on the experience.

This was the first gallery residency I've ever participated in, and it has challenged and inspired me in ways I never expected. One of the greatest gifts has been sharing space with such an incredible group of artists. The variety of work has been astounding. Each artist has brought their own unique voice, perspective, and dedication to their craft. My favorite part of each month has been walking into the gallery and seeing what everyone had created. Their work and commitment have been a constant source of inspiration.

Like most creative journeys, these six months have included successes, mistakes, experiments, and a few happy accidents. I've learned new skills, discovered new questions, and found myself thinking differently about my work. This experience has pushed me forward in ways I couldn't have anticipated. Most importantly, it has left me with more ideas than ever and an even stronger excitement to keep making.

A huge thank you to @julia333martin for believing in me and for creating this opportunity. Being included in this group has meant so much, and I'm incredibly grateful to have been part of it. 🙏🏼

If you're in the Wedgewood-Houston area, tomorrow is the final crawl (5-9pm) I'd love to see you there! by @maidenceramics

Migration is Natural — Nesting Bowl Set

Migration is embedded in the natural world... the instinct to move, sometimes across incredible distances, in search of what is needed to survive and thrive.
This nesting bowl set features three North American migratory animals: the monarch butterfly, the Canada goose, and the pronghorn deer.

Every year, monarch butterflies travel up to 3,000 miles between Canada, the US, and Mexico. No single butterfly completes the entire journey. Multiple generations participate in the migration, finding their way to the same grounds their ancestors once occupied.

Canada geese migrate thousands of miles as well. Their iconic V formation is an example of collective resilience. Taking turns leading and rotating positions, the flock shares the burden of pushing through wind, allowing the group to travel farther together than any one bird could alone.

Pronghorns, the fastest land mammals in North America, follow ancient migration routes across the western plains. Some herds travel more than 150 miles, navigating landscapes their ancestors crossed for thousands of years.

Bowls are generous forms. Made to hold, gather, offer, and nourish. They invite abundance and connection. Nesting bowls carry a quiet sense of belonging, each one resting within the next.

Migration is often about movement, but is also about what so many living things are moving toward: nesting/home... creating a haven where we can rest, grow, and care for one another. taken in Julia Martin Gallery by @maidenceramics

Off to install Migratory Flight - Wall Tile Set at @juliamartingallery this afternoon. 🪶

So many great things have come out of the JMG residency so far! It is always exciting and inspiring to see what the other artists create each month- each artist's work has left me creatively energized, and I can't wait to see what May brings.

The JMG residency has pushed me to try new approaches to ceramics - ( which comes with a mix of success and failure) - but mostly a whole lot of ideas for the future. taken in Julia Martin Gallery by @maidenceramics

🌷Had a magical weekend in Cleveland celebrating my Aunt Margaret's 80th trip around the sun. My aunt Margaret, who is an incredible interdisciplinary artist working with media from silversmithing to polymer clay to paper arts, has always been an inspiration to me. It was a gathering of brilliant women and the fantastic men who love them - my mother, aunts, sisters, and my sweet cousin who I hadn't seen in many years. Such a beautiful gathering to celebrate a beautiful woman. taken in Shaker Heights, Ohio by @maidenceramics

This Saturday at 6pm is the kickoff for the six-month residency at JMG ✨

I’m beyond grateful to Julia for including me in this show and for creating space for such a thoughtful, generous group of artists. It truly means a lot to be showing alongside so many people whose work I admire.

Getting back into ceramics in recent years has helped me rediscover my own artistic voice in a way I didn’t realize how much I needed. Working as a commercial artist for several years, that voice has, at times, felt buried — and this process has been such a grounding, joyful return to myself. This opportunity feels like a continuation of that rediscovery, and I’m so excited to keep exploring, learning, making, and sharing.

If you’re around, I’d love to see you there 💛 taken in Julia Martin Gallery by @maidenceramics
