Today was a peony preservation day. I got to use my new dehydrator that was gifted to me by my love and I dried peony and rose petals. I also made a simple syrup for peony ice-cream and I have plenty left over for future treats. My heart is full of joy and gratitude. by @maidenupstate

Just gratitude and love and awe and building things together and watching them grow and dreaming and harvesting and the sound of guitar strings and fireflies and coffee in the kitchen but mostly gratitude by @maidenupstate

This Fall will always be remembered as the time in my life where all of our hard work has turned our house into a home. I’ve learned that hard things can still feel beautiful, that taking care of myself is an act of love towards those who love me, and that perhaps one cannot have too many rugs. | I have a few projects that have been simmering on the back burner for long enough and I’m excited to share them with you soon! taken in The Catskills by @maidenupstate

This Summer I celebrated a year with my love. I always thought people were exaggerating about how love could feel, but now I wake every morning longing to write him a letter telling him things he doesn’t know, details about the depth of my feelings, but I don’t write him. He already knows. I search for photographs to prove he’s real, but very few exist, because in the moment I don’t reach for my phone, I just say to myself, “please remember this, every detail” I don’t know how something can feel so ethereal and yet so solidly real. I’m not a great writer, this is just to say a declaration of love. And thank you Jon, for loving me back. by @maidenupstate

Spring things; love, and blooming, and friendship, and home made meals, and fossils, and listening, and coffee, and 3am chats, and cats in warm window sills, and planting seeds, and the perfect weight blanket. by @maidenupstate

I’m always reflecting, comparing, contrasting, dreaming, but sometimes the special ingredient “action” is missing. This year has held such a dynamic range of joys and sorrows, disappointments and marvelous surprises. I had for a very long time been disconnected from feeling the nuances that make life feel rich, I decided to make 2023 different. I started seeing an incredible therapist, started running again, sold my business and fell in love with being alive again. Here are some moments/memories from the past year that I wanted to share. The pleasure and numb fingers from making 30+ friendship necklaces and giving many away to people I just met, but also the honor I feel when I see one being worn by a loved one. The beautiful spice cake my dearest @caseface918 makes for my birthday every year no matter how stressed she is. Celebrating the changing of the seasons as a way of living in the present, while planning for the future. Sharing handmade preserves with my friends and community @leftbankciders Swimming in the creek with my best friend. Picking cherries in the early morning heat and fermenting soda out of them. Eating a plate of clams @rosiegeneral that was so good I had to paint them, and how that brought me back to painting again. Growing onions! Finding new ways to preserve and appreciate what I’ve grown. Watching my friends romantic relationships deepen and grow. Drinking so much less alcohol and so much more tea. Making pasta from scratch with eggs from my chickens. Being vulnerable and brave enough to fall in love. Identifying the rustle of a feather duvet as a sound that makes me feel safe. Turing to art to help heal grief. Finding a workplace that brings me joy. Sheltering under a beach towel in a downpour to hide from the lighting, feeling safe in the face of danger. So many cheeses. Opening my Christmas present, to discover every color of oil paint I’ve ever heard of and how it felt like time stopped because I’ve never felt so seen, loved, supported. Without wanting to sound too sentimental, thank you all for a wonderful year and I hope next year brings pleasures beyond what we can even imagine. May we all have the courage to take action. by @maidenupstate

It’s been less than a week that the roosters have moved on to a sanctuary just on the edge of town. It would be fun if everything were flowers and swimming holes, but loss comes with life. I feel very lucky they get a new life, but they’ll be missed. taken in Catskill by @maidenupstate

In this last week all my waking thoughts are about capturing the essence of this large peony harvest. The effort of capturing something so exquisite and brief. Trying to understand my passion to share something beautiful with as many people as possible, and trying to forgive myself for spending my energy reaching for a canning jar instead of a paintbrush. What makes an artist? Is flower jelly art? taken in Catskill, New York by @maidenupstate
