Things my 2024 self probably wouldn't believe:

I would work with clients from different countries.

I would build dozens of websites.

I would complete 70+ Fiverr orders.

I would start teaching WordPress.

I would build a team around me.

I would have thousands of people following my work on LinkedIn.

And I would still be learning something new almost every week.
But the biggest change wasn't the numbers.

It was how I started seeing myself.

In the beginning:
“I'm trying to become a developer.”

Now:
“I'm building my career as a developer.”

There's a big difference.
One is waiting for permission.

The other is taking ownership.
Still a long way to go.

But when I look back, I'm glad I didn't wait until I felt ready

**I closed a project deal at 2 AM. And this is exactly what I want my students to understand. 👀**

After completing my 1-month course, my students often ask:

“When will we start getting clients?”

I get it. You learn a skill, complete a course, and want to start earning.

But here's the thing.

**A course can teach you WordPress. It can't build your personal brand for you.**

I've spent 3+ years on LinkedIn.

Learning what to post.
Sharing my work.
Building connections.
Improving my skills.
And showing up even when results weren't great.

Now, people are reaching out to me with project opportunities.

Like this one. At 2 AM. 😂

And it made me think about how many beginners expect results after just one month.

**Your course might be over, but your growth shouldn't be.**

Here's what you should focus on next:

→ Build projects that showcase your skills.
→ Keep improving instead of stopping at the basics.
→ Share what you're learning and building.
→ Make your profile a place where potential clients can trust your work.

It took me years to understand how powerful personal branding could be.

But you don't have to make the same mistakes I did.

You don't need thousands of followers or years of experience to start.

You just need to start showing up with a purpose.

**Skills help you deliver the work. Your personal brand helps people discover and trust you.**

And no, clients aren't guaranteed just because you post on LinkedIn. But building your skills, proof, and visibility gives them more reasons to choose you.

So, if you've just completed a course, don't ask only:

“When will I get clients?”

Ask yourself:

**“What am I doing to make the right clients notice me?”** 👇

Things I thought I needed to become a successful freelancer:
❌ A perfect portfolio
 ❌ Thousands of followers
 ❌ Expensive tools
 ❌ Every new AI tool
 ❌ Dozens of certificates
 ❌ A perfect setup
What I actually needed:
✅ Real projects
 ✅ Better communication
✅ The ability to solve problems
 ✅ Patience with clients
✅ The confidence to ask questions
✅ The discipline to keep improving
And probably the most important one:
The ability to deliver when nobody is watching.
Freelancing looks glamorous from the outside.
Laptop.
 Coffee.
 Working from home.
But behind that is a lot of:
“Why isn't this working?”
 “Let me test this again.”
 “The client needs this tomorrow.”
 “Okay… let's figure it out.”
😂
That's the part people don't put on Instagram.
And honestly?
That's where most of the learning happens.

What did you think you needed before you started freelancing?

If I Had 10 Minutes to Audit Your Website
Give me 10 minutes with your website.
I probably won't find everything.
But I can find enough to make you uncomfortable. 😂
Here's what I'd check first:
01 — The first 5 seconds
Can I understand what you do without scrolling?
If not, we have a problem.
02 — The CTA
Is there an obvious next step?
Call?
 Book?
 Buy?
 Get a quote?
Or does the visitor have to go on a treasure hunt?
03 — Mobile
Does it actually work properly on a phone?
Not:
 “It technically opens.”
I mean:
Can someone comfortably use it?
04 — Speed
How long does it take before the page actually feels ready?
A loading spinner isn't a design element. 😭
05 — Trust
Reviews.
 Testimonials.
 Clear contact details.
 Professional content.
 Proof of what you do.
Because visitors aren't just asking:
“What do you sell?”
They're also asking:
“Can I trust you?”
You don't always need a complete redesign.
Sometimes you need someone to look at the website like a customer instead of its owner.
Want to audit your own website? Start with these 5 checks

I started with a laptop. Somehow, it turned into a career.
When I started working online, I didn't have a big plan.

I had a laptop.
And a lot of things I didn't know yet. 😅

I learned WordPress.

Then I started taking small projects.

Then came Fiverr.
Then more clients.
Then bigger websites.

Then people started referring me to other people.

Somewhere along the way,
the thing I was simply “trying” became my actual career.

And honestly, I didn't notice it happening.

There wasn't one big moment where I thought:

“Okay, I've made it.”

It was more like:
One project → another project → another lesson → another client.

And slowly, I became better at something I didn't even realize I was building.

Not just websites.
A career around them.

That's probably one of the strangest things about freelancing.
You don't always see the progress while you're inside it.

Sometimes you only notice when you look back.

And realize: “Wait… I actually built something here.”

Did you ever feel like that?

A website became an online store
A client asked for a website.

What they actually needed was an online store.

This project had:

 → 30+ product categories
 → Hundreds of products
 → Product variations
 → Delivery information
 → Online payments
 → Customer enquiries

So simply making the website “look good” wasn't enough.

Customers needed to be able to:
Find → Understand → Choose → Buy

1. I built the store around that journey.
2. WooCommerce handled the store.
3. WordPress handled the content.
4. The design handled the experience.
5. And SEO was considered throughout the structure.
6. The result wasn't just another company website.

It became a proper online store the business could actually use.

That's one thing I love about WordPress:

You can start with a simple website…
and build something much bigger around the business.

Would you call this a website project or an eCommerce project?

3 Things I Check Before Touching a Client's WordPress Website
Before I touch a client's WordPress website, I don't open Elementor.
I open my eyes first. 😂
Because the first thing I need to understand isn't:
“How should I redesign this?”
It's:
“What's actually wrong?”
Here are 3 things I check first:
01 — The goal
What is the website supposed to achieve?
More calls?
 More enquiries?
 More sales?
 More bookings?
A website without a clear goal is just an expensive online brochure.
02 — The user journey
I pretend I'm a first-time visitor.
Can I understand the business quickly?
Can I find what I need?
Do I know what to do next?
If I need to “figure it out”…
that's already a problem.
03 — What's happening behind the scenes
Plugins.
 Performance.
 Mobile responsiveness.
 Forms.
 Broken links.
 Unnecessary code.
Because sometimes the website doesn't need a redesign.
It needs a cleanup.
That's why I don't start with:
“What can I add?”
I start with:
“What needs fixing?”
A better website doesn't always start with better design.
Sometimes it starts with better questions.
If you were hiring a developer, what would you want them to check first?

I stopped trying to make every website beautiful.
Sounds strange coming from a web developer, right?
But this is something freelancing taught me.
A website can have:
→ Beautiful animations
 → Perfect spacing
 → Amazing colors
 → Fancy typography
And still fail to help the business.
Because the visitor doesn't care how much time I spent choosing the perfect shadow.
They want to know:
What does this business do?
 Can I trust them?
 What should I do next?
That's when my approach started changing.
I still care about design.
A LOT.
But now I ask a different question before I build:
“What is this website supposed to achieve?”
Because a beautiful website that confuses visitors isn't doing its job.
That's one of the biggest lessons freelancing has taught me.
Design gets attention.
 Clarity gets action.
And I want the websites I build to have both.
CTA:
What do you notice first on a website — design or clarity?

A client recently messaged me:

“I just got your number from Trip Electric Service, and I believe you are currently working on their website.”

They wanted me to look at their own website and discuss what could be improved.

And honestly, this reminded me of something important about WordPress work:

**Your website projects are not just projects.
They are also your portfolio, proof, and marketing.**

You can spend hours creating social media posts about what you can do.

Or you can build a website so well that your existing client becomes the reason someone else contacts you.

That’s why I always think beyond:

“Does the website look good?”

I also ask:

1. Is it easy to understand?
2. Does it make the business look trustworthy?
3. Is it easy for visitors to take action?
4. Does it actually help the business?

Because a website shouldn't just exist.

**It should make the business easier to trust — and easier to choose.**

And sometimes, that impact brings your next client.

Have you ever got a client through work you had already done?

A website can be technically perfect and still fail.

It can have:
 → Clean code
 → Fast loading speed
 → Beautiful animations
 → A responsive design

And still not bring results.

Because the real question isn't:

“Does the website work?”

It's:

“Does the website make sense to the person visiting it?”

I’ve learned this while working on different websites for clients.

A good website should make it easy for visitors to understand:
Who is this for?
 What does this business offer?
 Why should I trust them?
 What should I do next?

If visitors have to figure all of that out themselves,
the website is doing too much work for them.

That's why I don't see WordPress development as just building pages.

It's about turning a business idea into a website people can actually understand and use.

What do you think makes a website successful — design, speed, or clarity?
