🌐Connectivity 2030🌐 Focusing on projects, places, and people, MCA is advancing digital opportunity for everyone in Maine.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Focusing on projects, places and people, the Maine Connectivity Authority (MCA) is advancing digital equity for all Mainers.

Established in 2021, the purpose of the MCA is to be proactive and strategic in deploying an unprecedented infusion of state and federal broadband funding.

High-speed internet access is essential to participation in modern society and has the potential to dramatically improve Mainers’ quality of life.

Private investment alone is insufficient to ensure that the above goals are met and to enable all Mainers to access these benefits. For these reasons, the MCA was conceived, legislated, and created to not just light up all dark pockets but to remove barriers and accelerate growth.

The MCA is designed to be more proactive in decision-making, explore public-private partnerships, deploy a range of financial tools, and enable a strategic network of digital infrastructure for Maine’s future.

“We’re making it easier for people to live, work, and do business everywhere in Maine. Everywhere. People like Rob and Alice, a couple who wanted to move to a small town in Maine but they needed high-speed internet for work.

Seven years ago, there was no way they could have moved to a place like Bremen, Maine and have fast enough internet. But thanks to our investments in broadband, that’s exactly what they did. Now, Alice and Rob are deeply involved in their community, and just this past fall they welcomed a baby boy to their family.”

–Governor Mills, State of the State Address

MCA is creating opportunities across Maine by enabling high-speed internet access and digital readiness. Our work is made possible through public investment, state leaders including Governor Mills, regional partners, and local champions. Thank you again to Rob and Alice for sharing your story and reminding us all just how significant this work is. by @maineconnectivity

Our next Digital Opportunity Star is Tyler Smith-Provencher! Thank you for all that you do for people in Maine, Tyler.

"Tyler has transformed digital literacy from a stand-alone service embedded in our adult education services into a trusted community resource reaching people all across greater Franklin County. Over the past three years, he has built strong partnerships with schools and community organizations to bring digital skills training, one-to-one technology support, device access, and healthy discussions around hot-button topics directly to the people who need and want it most. His work continues to evolve and expand: from developing formal partnerships that establish Greater Franklin/Spruce Mountain as a go-to digital literacy provider, to connecting and supporting people in active recovery with reliable devices to navigate online job boards, bringing critical conversations about safe social media usage and identifying scams to SeniorsPlus, and digital well-being into local school districts -- his outreach has been nothing short of impressive. What makes Tyler exceptional is his ability to recognize a barrier and then build practical, sustainable solutions around it, often times tapping into county-wide partners who are excited to problem-solve with him for the benefit of greater Franklin County residents who are better served with access and know-how around technology. Tyler is not simply teaching people how to connect to the internet; he is building confidence in adult learners and establishing meaningful relationships that incorporate responsible digital citizenship in rural Maine."

"I am proud to nominate Nate Gariepy, our help desk guru at give IT. get IT., as a Digital Opportunity Star. Nate handles our clients’ technology questions and problems with patience, kindness, and respect. He has a wonderful ability to reassure people who may feel frustrated or overwhelmed by technology. If he does not immediately know the answer, he quickly researches the issue and finds a solution. Nate’s knowledge, dedication, and genuine care help our clients feel confident using the technology they need to improve their lives."

"Nate provides user coaching and technical support for over 1,000 'get IT' families each year. He genuinely cares and is highly motivated to help people make the most of their technology when furthering their educational, personal, health and career goals."

He turns frustrating technology into something manageable, and our community is stronger because of him."

"Nathan has always gone above and beyond to assist every customer he interacts with. He takes the time to ensure that each client has a clear and thorough understanding of the problem and its solution. His dedication and attention to detail give customers confidence that the issue has been fully resolved and help prevent the same problem from arising again."

What does connection mean in your life?

For some Mainers, it's attending classes online. For others, it's accessing healthcare, running a business, applying for jobs, or staying in touch with loved ones.

Reliable internet is about more than technology. It's about #opportunity

Tell us in the comments: What has internet access helped you do this year?
