sappy new years post coming, v grateful for 2024 and v excited for 2025 🩷🎉 tw: mentions of an ed, if you want to read my full word vom•not gonna go into crazy detail but the first half of my year was TOUGH. my mental health was the worst it had been in a while and it was rough patch after rough patch that i felt like i could not escape. days felt monotonous and i lost a lot of my creative drive and passion. come mid-april i saw a post from @badbishclub.co for an open call to be in a pride showcase that june. i’d taken a class with the group back in february but other than that i had not danced in almost 7 years. i quit after my freshman year of high school because my body was practically falling apart on me due to my incredibly demanding schedule and an eating disorder that i didn’t seek treatment for until 2020. safe to say, i didn’t think i would touch dance again outside of moving my body when i heard a song i liked. but with encouragement from my friends and family (particularly my mother), i bit the bullet and signed up for the showcase and i can now say with 100% confidence that it was the best decision i made this year. the community that @serinarila made allowed me to reconnect with myself, my sexuality and my all consuming love for dance and it pulled me out of the pit i was stuck in. my old friendships flourished, and new friendships came into my life that i will not be letting go of anytime soon. even though my body has changed, and so has my own identity since i was 14, dancing has fueled so much joy in my life again. dance no longer is linked to the voice in my head saying i’m not small enough, not good enough, but instead to one that tells me i’m worth it. sometimes you need to take space from the things you love, in order for it to come back when you need it most. and i am so fucking grateful that dance came back to me this year, it quite literally saved my life. hope to see your faces in class in 2025 😘 by @maireadkell.y
