Who is your favourite complex character?
You know, the one everyone moans about even though we've all been wanting characters with DEPTH 🤌

I think we know by now, this girlie loves an assassin main character & Soul Sworn by @thekatedylan has two! 🗡️

ADGifted products - Thank you to @thekatedylan @littlebrownbookgroup_uk @piatkus_living and @netgalley for the opportunity to read Soul Sworn early, opinions are my own.

The magic system is really unique, everyone has a soulmate and a sworn enemy (the sworn enemy is the person destined to kill your soulmate) so that's where our FMC Talia comes in, she's hired to kill sworn enemies of those who can afford her services.

Talia is blackmailed into taking a mission she's uncomfortable with but it's one that messes with fate...aaaand that's where our MMC Cain comes in. He's a hunter who stops reapers (assassins) who could interfere with fate.

Talia is confident, strong and knows what she wants (and doesn't) in life. Cain on the other hand is heavily indoctrinated by the religion he was placed in as a child. I know we've all been screaming for complex characters and Cain is absolutely that; he finds it difficult when faced with truths that go against his religious teachings, he struggles with his own wants and needs due to the religious trauma (not that he sees it that way, again heavily indoctrinated) his character is written so well and paired brilliantly with Talia's confidence in her place in the world.

Cain learns from Talia (in many ways, take that as you will 😉) though they're both strong and in the same business of assassination, they're very different in their beliefs and life experiences.

You need to pick this up if you love hot priests, strong FMCs and a storyline that keeps you gripped from start to finish. taken in Booksta by @maisreadingagain

Vulnerable (but important) post, shenanigans to be resumed tomorrow ✨

I never talk about this stuff because I try to keep things about books and not about family and stuff. But it's suicide prevention month and I think it's really important to know nobody's alone and there's support out there.

So what some of you may not know is I am a mama to a gorgeous boy.

When I gave birth I had an emergency C-section and hemorrhaged. I lost over 2 litres of blood and went tachycardic and was out for a while which meant I didn't meet my son for a while, I couldn't bond with him right away and damn that got me down. On top of this I was very aware how close to ✨checking out✨ I was. Recovery was long but we got through it and then life happened and we moved and more life happened 😅 I figured every parent gets down as we hardly sleep and on the go constantly and I worked night shifts as a disability carer then was awake all day with my son, little did I know the anxiety I felt was also depression settling in.

The dreaded lockdown happened and the stress of trying to navigate my son's additional needs while he was not allowed in school was piling on and again I didn't notice that I was down more than up, it's normal right? Stressful times.

Well we finally got help when he was officially diagnosed as autistic and got him into school, now it hasn't been smooth sailing as there's always learning curves but it got better. But I wasn't getting better (& I cried like all the time over anything), after so many years of thinking this is normal and putting my mental health struggles to one side I finally reached out and asked for help from my Dr. I'm now medicated and it's not fixed everything but it has helped a tremendous amount. I'm not saying it's the same for everyone but even if you don't seek medical intervention you absolutely should talk about it if you're not feeling right.

It's okay to not be okay.

Get yourself that sweet treat, the book, the trinket, whatever, if you can find a little joy in the small things in life then do it.
