Are You Looking at Me?

A photographic series revealing the unseen world of invisible disabilities. What is it like to live in a body that betrays you in ways no one sees or understands? We face the unwelcome attention, the silent judgment, the feeling of being “other.” My whole life, I’ve carried the weight of the unseen and the haunting question: Are you looking at me? To most, it’s harmless. To me, it’s a reminder of what I’ve tried to hide my invisible disability. It makes us want to disappear, even though what we overcome makes us stronger. The irony? The one thing I try to hide is the one thing people always notice. We highlight flaws in ourselves, in others without understanding the stories behind them. Yes, I’m looking at you. . The real question is: Can you see me?

This series sheds light on the untold truths and inner journey of: Hiding - Reflection - Acceptance - Confrontation - Release

“Reflection” Coming Tomorrow 10/20

Sweet Dolly, my greatest inspiration and one of the heroes who helped shape my life. 💗

I wouldn’t be the performer or person am today without the light you shared with the world. Because of you, I learned that this little Southern blonde girl from TN could pursue her dreams and have the courage to step into the spotlight.

In college, when I was struggling to find confidence as an actor, I performed one of your monologues for an audition and got a callback. I clipped my hair back, stopped overthinking, and simply went for it. That moment has stayed with me because, once again, you helped me find courage without ever knowing me.

I’m heartbroken I never got to tell you this in person, but I hope you knew how deeply your life touched mine. You said it best: you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain. 🌈

I’ll see you up there, Queen, and then I’ll tell you all about it. 🦋💗 by @maitlynnrose
