POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Guilford College! I want to thank my parents for supporting me and believing I could achieve this goal I’ve had forever. I’d like to thank Colorado Juniors coaches and CSA coaches as well as Shannon Baker for really helping me develop in my skill and become a better person on and off the court. And lastly, I would like to thank Coach Miron for making me feel so at home at Guilford and making me a part of his team. I cannot wait for this next chapter of my life!! taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado by @maiya.yea

Maiya Yeaton is a freshman at Guilford College. The 5-foot-9 outside hitter from Colorado has 30 kills and 17 digs this season. She led The Village High School to a state volleyball title. She outlined her journey in this Digging Dish.
“I started playing volleyball after a friend’s mom recommended that I give it a try while I was still exploring different sports,” she said. “I was 10 years old when I first started playing.”
She started as a middle and is now a fixture on the pins.
“During my 12s and 13s club seasons, I started out playing middle before transitioning to outside hitter during my 14s–16s seasons,” she said. “Beginning with my 17s season, I transitioned into a pin position, playing both outside and right side.”
Playing college volleyball became a goal later on.
“I quickly fell in love with volleyball, but I didn’t develop the dream of playing at the collegiate level until later in my 16s club season,” she said.
She enjoys competing with her teammates.
“My favorite part of volleyball has always been the competition and the people I get to share it with,” she said. “I am naturally competitive, which pushes me to continually challenge myself and become the best player I can be. One of my favorite memories was winning the Colorado 3A state championship during my junior year with some of my best friends. Being part of my school’s inaugural women’s volleyball team and making history together made the experience even more meaningful. Returning for my senior year and competing at the state tournament again was another experience I will always value. Although we finished fifth, being able to represent my school, compete alongside my teammates and continue building on what we started our first season made my final year especially memorable.”
She is pushed by her teammates at Guilford.
“My favorite thing about Guilford volleyball is the environment,” she said. “The community within the team and coaching staff has been a dream to be a part of. Being surrounded by teammates who challenge and push me to become better every day has made Guilford feel like the perfect home for me.”

She focuses on developing her skills and recovery.
