BTS : MUA’s POV 🔍 When working on this issue, I had the chance to experience the actual Tanyak Tanyak face painting tradition using the real bamboo tool and flour pigment. It felt like a full-circle moment because my first Vogue issue also featured dotted stars and and moons tradition. The stars truly witnessed this alignment. ⭐️✨🌟

Mindanao will always have a special place in my heart. Its rich culture from food, fashion, architecture, to its flora and fauna . I’m grateful to be part of the team that poured much passion into this issue. 🖤

Fashion, like identity, is as layered and complex as the history from which it springs. It is shaped by a tradition of centuries, grounded in the artisanal and bespoke, but, as our story evolves, it has come to be shaped by personal truth.

DA BADDEST ON MY GLAM CHAIR!❤️‍🔥 • 2015 birthed a new wave of online beauty personalities like @bretmanrock and I was then an aspiring MUA binging his videos imitating the way he does cut creases, dramatic eyes and contouring (back in his little space with mandala backdrop hahaha! also, see last slide for my looks back then lol).

What a full circle moment that 10 years later I’ll be applying what I learned from him ON him for the maiden issue of @allurephilippines - celebrating Filipino beauty and the Filipino Now.♥️✨

Also, an honor to have done this momentous project with my hair pair @jafeliciano 🫶🏼 we’re both over the moon!

The Yakan tribe have a wedding ritual where they use flour and bamboo to stamp on dots and crescents to symbolize the stars and moon - witnesses to the bride and groom’s love.

I didn’t have access to the bamboo apparatus from Zamboanga so I made stamps instead to mimic its effect. In awe of how beauty is deeply rooted in our Filipino blood and the skill of face painting can be traced all the way to our ninuno.🇵🇭💄

What a humbling and enriching project for my first @voguephilippines cover. The stars and moon are witnesses to this milestone.
