Storyboards are an essential tool in makeup artistry, especially for editorial, fashion, and creative projects. They help artists organize their ideas, establish a visual direction, plan colors and textures, and communicate the overall concept.

At Make Up First®, our program includes a storyboard exercise that helps students develop their creative vision and learn how to translate inspiration into a physical work of art.

Not everyone learns the same way, and that’s exactly why we offer hybrid learning. 📚🖌️

For students who are local, our hybrid learning option combines the flexibility of online education with bonus in-person hands-on time with an instructor. Complete our Online Certification Program at your own pace while scheduling private, one-on-one lessons with one of our instructors throughout the course.

It’s the perfect way to reinforce what you’ve learned, and build confidence with extra hands-on practice, all while learning on a schedule that works for you.

The best of both worlds!

A note to our community….🖤

One of the biggest questions we’ve gotten this year is, “How’s the online program going?”

The answer? Better than we ever imagined.

Our days are filled with reviewing assignments, answering questions, helping students troubleshoot challenges, celebrating breakthroughs, and watching our artists from all around the world grow their skills. Our inboxes are full and we’re bonding with our students on a deeper level. We truly wouldn’t have it any other way!

Looking back, moving Make Up First online was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Instead of being limited to one classroom in one city, we’re now teaching artists EVERYWHERE! Whether our students are balancing a full-time job, raising a family, in school, or living across the globe, they’re receiving the same education, mentorship, and support that we’ve always been known for.

Something we’ve been excited about during our new journey, is the extra amount of one-on-one time we have with each student. We love seeing them apply feedback to their next assignment, celebrating their progress, answering their questions along the way, and watching their confidence grow with every module they complete. It truly feels like we’re on this journey with them every step of the way.

To everyone who has enrolled, supported us, shared our program, or believed in this new chapter, thank you!! You are the reason Make Up First continues to grow, evolve, and reach more aspiring artists than ever before.🫶

This school has always been about creating opportunities for makeup artists, and today that mission feels bigger than ever!! We’re just getting started, and we can’t wait to see what’s next🎉

You might know color theory… but do you know it like a MUF graduate? 🎨

There’s a difference between choosing the right shade and understanding how to create it from scratch.

Color theory isn’t just a quick lesson in our Certificate Program. We’ve dedicated an entire section of the curriculum to helping students understand why and how colors behave the way they do.

From understanding how colors interact to recognizing how color influences the final result, this foundational knowledge impacts nearly every area of makeup artistry. Students will practice mixing neutral tones from primary colors - a concept that challenges the way many artists think about color.
