For Lexi’s makeup look, we wanted to stay true to Elle Woods and lean into a youthful, soft-pink glam, using all @lorealparis products. Legally Blonde is one of my all-time favourite films, so I was counting down to watching Elle and I loved it so much. Each episode unlocked so many memories and I just loved feeling like I was back in the world of my childhood again. I spoke to Jennifer Powell, the makeup designer from the show, to learn how she transformed Lexi Minetree and June Diane Raphael into the Woods women. Set in the mid-1990s, “Elle”—the prequel to series to the 2001 film “Legally Blonde”—sheds light on Elle Woods backstory, including a dramatic move from dreamy Bel-Air to dreary Seattle, the city better known for its flannel shirts than French manicures. The prequel also shows us that Elle’s dedication to beauty began long before joining Delta Nu. In fact, for makeup designer Jennifer Powell (@makeupjenpowell) and hair designer Florencia Anahi (@floranahicepeda), it was important that there was a throughline from the high-school version of Elle, played by Lexi Minetree, to the Elle we see in “Legally Blonde,” played by Reese Witherspoon (who was executive producer for the Prime Video series). In this edition of The Scenario, “Allure” columnist, Kirbie Johnson, interviews Powell and Anahi, to find out how they transformed Minetree into the high-school version of everyone’s favorite Harvard law grad.
