@makingascenebriz - Build what you want to see. @exchangebristol X @punka_bristol 🫂 Making a Scene is all about building the music scene that you want to be part of, from scratch and together. Over the summer, we’ll be running hands-on workshops in various instruments, DJing, sound engineering and event promotion. Tickets to all workshops are available on Headfirst and in our bio 🎟️ You’ll meet other creatives, jam, collaborate, and form brand new bands while new promoters and sound techs learn how to put on a gig from the ground up. We’ll also be hosting band meet-ups and socials following on from these workshops - this is about finding your people as much as finding your sound. 🩷 All of this leads to a huge showcase on December 19th (The Big Gig!!) - This will be a fully realised gig featuring the bands created through the project, with first-time promoters running the show, fresh sound techs on the desk and an afterparty courtesy of our brand new DJs! We’re centering people who don’t always see themselves represented in music spaces. This is including but not limited to people of colour, neurodivergent people, trans and non-binary people, and anyone who feels underrepresented on or off stage. We won’t be gatekeeping or policing who belongs here. If this feels like a space you’d like to be part of, then it’s for you. Come to a workshop. Start a band. Run a night. Play the afterparty. JAM SESSIONS Jam sessions are for musicians of all types and all skill levels. It’s a place to meet new people, make lots of noise and get creative. Bring your own instruments but a drum kit will be provided. We are hoping to form some new bands at the jams too! VENUE: @exchangebristol main room & Basement DATES: Sunday 4th October (this Sunday!!) TIME: 1pm - 4pm COST: Pay what you can, please sign up on Headfirst using the link in our bio so that we can keep track of numbers. JAM SESSION SOCIALS After the Jam Sessions we can head over the road to @omtbristol for a Jam social. Where you can chat to your all of your fellow musicians and make new friends and connections. The socials are completely free and a great way to find out what music you are all into and if new projects can be formed. Ever been to a jam or open mic, quaking in your boots, wanting to join in but not quite knowing how? Letting imposter syndrome get the better of you? @charlielenmusic is a saxophonist and piano vocalist with a background in inclusive and disability focussed education. In this workshop you’ll go through the steps to move from audience member to participant of a jam. We’ll look at -non-verbal musical communication -collaboration skills -solo building There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and try things out in a supportive atmosphere. This is open to musicians of all levels who would like to find it easier to play with other people. Instrument Maintenance Workshop with Ashe Saturday 12th September at Exchange 1-3pm. Super important workshop for guitarists and bassists 🎸 Required - Electric or bass guitar & pack of fresh strings (I recommend either Ernie Ball or D’addarios) Optional - Allen keys the guitar came with & Tuner. This workshop is all about taking comprehensive care of your electric or bass guitar. We’ll be going through fret/fretboard care, restringing, and a typical “set-up”; tweaking the intonation, action, etc. Music should be a pleasure to make, but many second-hand, entry-level, and unmaintained guitars make playing music incredibly inaccessible; who wants to play an instrument that’s working against you? Your musical instrument should be an able and willing partner in the music you make, and it’s our goal to give you the tools to keep your partner in the best shape you can! From her beginnings as a bedroom musician playing a painfully withered Epiphone Explorer bass guitar, Ashe @duckrunamok come up through the Bristol music scene with a love for music that is reflected in the meticulously maintained guitars and basses she’s helped to re-string, refurbish, and rejuvenate for her friends and fellow musicians.
