For the last 25 years, my dad has always known exactly when I need ice cream. I may have said this every Father’s Day for a long time now, but for someone who is always looking out for others, the most precious thing is to be noticed and seen. There aren’t many questions—he just asks if I need ice cream, and somehow, that leads to answers he never asked for and conversations that mean everything. He didn’t start a movement, but he created one just by asking if I was okay.

One of the coolest things about my life is that my dad was my first preacher, and he got to see me preach my first sermon. That’s a memory I’ll hold onto forever. Times have changed, and I keep trying to introduce him to new songs, but somehow, he still plays the same playlist from when I was nine years old. And honestly, that playlist might always beat mine—because his music taste is the original for me.

Whenever we’re near a Waffle House, my dad makes it his mission to get me there—no judgment, just making sure his angel girl gets what she wants when he can provide it. I was always known as his shadow. Now, as grown as I am, I sometimes miss being his shadow—not because it meant I was overlooked, but because it meant I was under his protection. And for that, I’ll always be grateful.

Happy Mother’s Day🩷
I’m blessed because I still get to tell you these things in person , well… I guess this is on the internet? So like you can still like this post — anyways :
I love you so much for who you are and I pray that you keep becoming all the things God has called you to be . I am now the age you were when you had me and when I think of having a child right now, I am terrified, but you did it so beautifully to raise me and Grace and to be an example of a woman of such a giving, caring, and loving heart. You make me want to try to give motherhood a chance (5-7 years from now of course) you are a Mother other mothers can look up to — you are sunshine. You are late night projects , you are essay editing, You are cook for me while I’m in PT school, You are pray with me until my anxious feelings dismay, You are pray for me every day of my life, You are my mother , and the only one I ever needed. I am grateful and thankful to be able to be your kid. I am honored to be able to watch you worship my whole life. I am graced with the opportunity to learn from you. I am grateful to be your child. I pray this Mother’s Day you get all the flowers you deserve. Thank you for being my mom , and being such a good mom at that. 🩷 by @makingmajesty
