The collaboration to screen “Black Girls Play: The Story of Hand Games” happened this week and was the very first actual event to be held in AOTA outside of our programming.
There was no better event to be first in the AOTA building than to honor and celebrate black women and their origination and contributions to music, storytelling, and the hip hop industry [now dominated primarily by men.]

The Q&A at the end was held with the audience giving a voice to the brilliant minds in the room and creating an atmosphere of community and sense of self, belonging, and feeling seen among many other reflections of the night.

Huge THANK YOU to @tamahamiltonwray , @mal_educado47 @rcahatmsu , @gritglamguts @aaasmsu for bringing this event to life and inviting AOTA to play a part by hosting.

Shoutout to the incredible students from GGG and our AYO students for running the night!

If you haven’t see the documentary yet, you can find it on @espn and YouTube.

AOTA’s three AYO cohorts: Fellows, Craftsman, and Griots, had the honor of touring and engaging at @rcahatmsu & @rcah_lmc !

📌Did you know? RCAH has a 99% placement rate after graduation?!

Thanks to @mal_educado47 and the incredible team at RCAH & LMC (Residential College of Arts & Humanities & Language and Media Center) the students heard from a recruiter, a current student, visited the Dean’s office (even pet a dog,) toured their space including meeting in the Look Out Gallery, and engaged in a mini beat making workshop! Then all ate a meal together in Snyder Hall with parents and our team.

AYO students walked away dreaming of what their future could look like with their passions colliding with education and tangible career paths.

We’re all still unpacking the magnitude of the experience and hype to visit again soon!

THANK YOU @rcahatmsu , @rcah_lmc , @mal_educado47 and everyone involved for setting this idea into motion!

There are not enough words for how Breaking 102 class went this week! But we’ll try…

I don’t think we knew the impact that student-led instruction was going to have going into the idea, or maybe @flavavitz & @mal_educado47 knew and just waited for it all to unfold magically in front of our eyes.

It was beautiful to see the bravery and vulnerability of both sets of students leaning into something they’ve never done before.

Thank you for visiting @msu.socialscience @msu_ssc_399 !

Every morning for the past week, I woken up hella early without the opportunity to go back to sleep. Not because I automatically get busy but because my mind runs, no it fuxking floods with thoughts about, what the fuck is going on today, in my local community, my family’s city, this damn country that my family sacrificed so much for so I can get an education and “do better...” and even across the world...lately, it’s hard not to feel so much weight not just on my shoulder but on my whole being.
When I can’t go back to sleep, which lately it’s been every day, I decide I should read...research...& learn about what more can I do, say, or share.

Today, I want to share this article, “Dismantling Structural Racism and Disarming, Demilitarising, and Defunding Police to Rebuild our Communities,” where Ray Acheson explains how investing into police is the same as investing into violence. Further adding that, police militarization only accomplished the expedition of VIOLENCE. In the end, it’s crystal clear what we need, not just in the states but across this damn world, “Defund, demilitarise, and abolish police” and use our energies, creativity and care to begin not only imagining but manifesting a future prioritizing “in education, housing, youth programmes, health care including mental health care, and restorative justice mechanisms”

If you are interested in reading it all, I’ve added the link to my bio. @wilpf by @mal_educado47

Follow up from yesterday.
It’s been a while since I posted; yesterday was the first time and first day I didn’t listen to music for hours, I would unconsciously grad my phone with the desire to pull up spotify but didn’t.
Instead, I thought about i Can do within my power to continue fighting for a more just society. Here’s a few things I felt I should share today. To my Black Brothers and Sisters, Im here for you & I will continue to do my best to be in genuine & critical solidarity with you. Sending my LOVE ❤️ & best energies ✨ as we simultaneously heal & fight.
This isn’t going to go away overnight & I got stamina, so don’t count me out. ✊🏽 #solidaritywithBLM by @mal_educado47
