She's giving us the full tour 🏫✨

This is Shangla Girls School and College — the school @malala built with her Nobel Prize money in the mountains of northern Pakistan. Today it serves more than 1,000 girls.

This year, Malala is celebrating her birthday at home. Help us build a world where every girl can learn and thrive like the students at Shangla.

On this Day of the African Child, we celebrate the girls building brighter futures across Africa and the partners helping them to thrive. In Nigeria, Tanzania and Ethiopia, they work to expand education access, challenge harmful norms and turn possibility into progress.

Pakistan spends trillions of rupees on education every year, yet the public has limited understanding of how this money is classified, released and ultimately spent.

@tabadlab is building the capacity of Pakistani journalists — who keep the public informed and hold decision-makers accountable — to navigate budget documents, decode classification systems and connect financing figures to real education outcomes.

33 journalists are now trained to follow the money.

Last month at the @gpforeducation replenishment event in New York, lower-income countries committed $471 billion from their national budgets for education over five years.

The biggest threat to those commitments is debt. 113 countries are spending more on paying back loans than on their schools. And when education budgets tighten, girls are the first to lose out.

📣 We’re calling on economic leaders and lenders to treat girls’ education as part of the path out of debt crises, rather than a cost to cut.

Listen to the expert👆🏾

The debt math isn’t mathing if paying today’s bills means sacrificing girls’ futures — and the economies they’ll help strengthen.

We’re working with our partners to help unlock at least $36 billion more for education by 2030 and tackle the barriers keeping girls out of school.

What’s the balance in your country? Does your government spend more on education or debt payments?

Malala Fund’s Shangla Girls School and College won 1st place at the @isbsciencefest , their first time competing against schools from across Pakistan.

Their project, “Safe Mine: Smart Helmet for Safe Mining,” is dedicated to the coal miners who recently lost their lives.

When girls have a school, good teachers and a real chance to compete, they build solutions that protect people.

Proud of you, girls. Keep going! by @malalafund

✏️Why is Malala Fund talking about debt? Because when countries spend more paying back loans, less is left for schools, and girls are often the first to lose out.

Malala Fund Pakistan Chief Executive Dr Nishat Riaz (@nishatriazkhan) explains why girls shouldn’t pay for a country’s debt. Swipe to read, and find her full op-ed in @thenewspak via the link in bio. by @malalafund

At Malala Fund, we work to secure stronger education budgets and make sure girls have a say in how that money is spent.

In Bauchi state, Nigeria, 17-year-old Sharon got to have her say. At a workshop organised by @youngleadersn, with support from Malala Fund, Sharon sat alongside government officials and education leaders to share what girls actually need from education budgets.

And she's proud to know those leaders took her ideas seriously.

Girls like Sharon aren't waiting to be heard. They're already helping shape decisions about their education. 💚 by @malalafund

Economists have a word for things that can make or break a country’s economy: macrocritical. It’s applied to food costs, oil prices and exchange rates — but rarely to education.

Across 113 countries, governments now spend more on debt than on educating their children. Our new brief makes the case that education — girls' education above all — is macrocritical and details how policymakers can better protect it from the debt squeeze.

What does it look like to meaningfully engage men and boys in advancing girls’ education?

For our co-founder @ziauddin.yousafzai, allyship goes beyond supporting girls’ education. It takes the courage to challenge harmful norms and speak up when girls’ rights and choices are being denied.

Our research explores how intentional, accountable engagement with men and boys can help break down barriers and create lasting change for girls in Nigeria.

When Samuel saw how early marriage had cut short the education of girls in his family, he wanted a different future for his daughter, Deborah.

Today, Deborah is an advocate for girls’ education, using her voice to push for change.

Samuel is proof that men and boys have a role to play in challenging the norms that hold girls back, so every girl can learn and choose her own future.

On August 26, flash floods swept through northern Nepal, disrupting education for more than 14,000 children and destroying or damaging at least 23 schools.

Malala Fund is announcing $150,000 in grants to RDC Nepal and RUDEC Nepal to provide safe learning spaces and psychosocial support for adolescent girls, who are often the last to return to school when disaster strikes.
