Savannah and I went on our honeymoon earlier this month, exploring Northern Italy and Austria (map on next slide). We kept a log of daily activities as we traveled. Using the latest evolution in Instagram’s thrillingly dynamic user platform, I have excerpted portions of said log into captions for each slide.

[star indicates a night or more spent and a small dot indicates a pit stop during the day.]

S: I learned that Venice can teach us a lot about the anthropocene, details to follow. Query if ‘cacio’ and ‘formaggio’ are interchangeable.

M: We hiked a 10 mile trek to the Rittner Horn, 7,500 feet in the sky. Gates along the trail all have unique personalities. The mountainside is filled with a symphony of cowbells…

We made friends with a couple lovely donkeys along the way, saw some cows, mini-horses, and lots of handsome huts.
S: We cannot leave it at “made friends”... we are bonded deeply.

S: The fire salamander, of which we saw no fewer than three today, is usually nocturnal but likes to play in daytime rain. This species is known for its girthsome pectoral girdle.

S: Last rich breakfast at Briol, shared taxi w/ Swiss gentlemen + handsome black lab, long drive from Barbiano to Friuli-Venezia Giulia, watering hole pit stop, sweater shopping, farm trespassing, dinner and tennis viewing at I Comelli.
M: Zverev can suck a limestone, Puttanesca.

S: Today was extremely epic. We hiked Hohe Tauern, about 10 miles with waterfalls, an otherworldly alpine lake, many switchbacks…

Coca Cola from the heavens, magnificent cattle, and even a handsome dalmatian...

We had a snack of pesto pasta at a utopic petting zoo restaurant, and I made beans for dinner in our Austrian chalet.

M: Today we learned that you can smoke a cigarette on a paddleboard, that the water in the Adriatic is very salty, and that Trieste is home to the most scholarly researchers in the world, per capita.

S: Malcolm electrocuted himself on an electric fence while taking pictures of sheep.

M: We took a scenic Slovenian drive toward Filzmoos– stopping along the way at a Rock n’ Roll rest stop. We saw many parading a by @malcolm_donaldson
