![In defence of digital cultural debris
Who renders whom? A live convolute on Seeing/Meaning.
[A constellation of live cuts into what is seen, what is meant, and what remains off-screen.]
the how?
a lecture performance unfolding in the form of a montage
the what?
a reading-through-and-against-one-another of Tony Cokes’ post-digital sampling of audiovisual fragments (sourced from pop culture, social media platforms, journalistic as well as philosophical texts) and Walter Benjamin’s cultural-history montage
this is not a linear analysis, but a diffractive entanglement through which both perspectives
meet in a shared constellation, mutually illuminating one another in a momentary flash
huge thanks to @kunstmuseum_liechtenstein and @christianemeyerstoll for letting me contribute to Wednesday XL, an evening revolving around sampling/mixing/cutting, in attunement with @cokes_tony ‘s current exhibition “Let Yourself Be Free”💞
[home-run: this is where I came to know art, this is where I gave my first lecture performance]
