If you never saw this scene… you need to. But those of us who did all cheered when this happened.

But the older I get, the more I realise that scene wasn’t really about proving she could still dance. It was about returning to a part of herself that life had made her put aside.

“Move it or lose it” doesn’t only apply to your body. It applies to your confidence, creativity, playfulness and joy too.

So keep dancing. Keep running. Keep playing. Keep doing the things you loved before you became concerned with looking too old, too serious or too sensible.

Growing older is compulsory.

People find it hard to believe when I say Barbados costs and arm and a leg in USD, which equates to a foot and a kidney in Barbados dollars. If you know you know 😔 taken in Spain by @malgriffith

The campaign is called Stars Align.

Unfortunately something here is not aligned and just feels… up in the air.

The marketing lesson here is simple: intention is not the same as interpretation.

Every detail communicates. Lighting, composition, symbolism and cultural context all matter.

Global campaigns need diverse perspectives before they go live, not after the backlash.

And your product should always remain the hero. If people remember the controversy but forget what you were selling, the campaign has failed.

You haven’t created desire.

You’ve created a crisis… with questionable lighting. taken in Spain by @malgriffith

Consistency doesn’t always look like winning.

Sometimes it looks like running the second-fastest marathon in history… and still coming second.

Yomif Kejelcha kept showing up anyway.

Then, in Buenos Aires, he ran 56:51 and broke the half-marathon world record.

We celebrate consistency when it finally looks like success.

But consistency is built in the moments when your best still isn’t enough, and you decide to return anyway.

Keep showing up because your greatness might be closer than it looks. taken in Spain by @malgriffith

Canada just got invited to join the EU.

The only tiny complication is that this type of membership doesn’t actually exist yet. 😂

So no EU passports, no spontaneous moves to Paris and definitely no shared Netflix password.

Canada and Europe are simply soft-launching the relationship.

And considering the current geopolitical dating pool… honestly, good for them. 🇨🇦🤝🇪🇺 taken in Spain by @malgriffith

Running has a funny way of getting you out of your head by putting you back into your body.

When your thoughts get loud, movement gives your mind one simple job …

One foot in front of the other. Up, down, forward.

The body gets busier. The mind gets quieter. And somewhere between one step and the next, things begin to feel clearer.

You don’t always have to sit still and think your way through something.

Pain, doubt, or fear … sometimes, you have to run through it. taken in Marbella, Spain by @malgriffith

ChatGPT really said, “Here, play this while I work.” 😂

A hidden game of Snake inside the image-loading screen is the kind of innovation I can get behind. If you survived the Nokia era, this one is for you.

Who else remembers chasing that pixel around the screen like their life depended on it? 🐍📱

One of the biggest lessons running has taught me is that you don’t need permission to call yourself the thing you’re already doing.

If you run, you’re a runner.
If you swim, you’re a swimmer.
If you dance, you’re a dancer.
If you write, you’re a writer.
Once you do, you’re a doer.

You don’t need to be a professional. You don’t need to be the best. You don’t even need to feel confident saying it yet.

Sometimes we’re so afraid of claiming the label that we hold ourselves back from doing the very thing we love.

But the label isn’t something you earn before you begin. It becomes true because you began.

That’s the lesson I’m taking from running into the rest of my life:

Do the thing. Become the thing. Don’t be afraid to name it. taken in Málaga, Spain by @malgriffith

It started with one Barbados passport, in a hotel lobby two thousand miles from home.

Long before luxury hospitality marketing consulting, before building automated systems for hotels and restaurants and SMB’s, before Les Roches even, there was, Pisces, a restaurant in Barbados. I started as a food runner. Larry and Michelle didn’t just give me a job, they developed me all the way up to restaurant manager across their establishments. How to read a room. How to run a floor. How to make a stranger feel like a guest instead of a customer. How to not sell, but deliver a feeling tied to something someone didn’t even know they wanted until it was in front of them. Much of what I do today professionally traces back to that climb, under their watch.

Hugo and I met through Les Roches, never in the same class, never the same cohort even. But that’s the thing about that school: the connection isn’t the classroom, it’s the network. You end up with friends scattered across hotels and cities you’ve never even been to, all speaking the same language of service.

Two days ago, Hugo’s checking in a family at his hotel in Barcelona, routine front desk work, nothing unusual. Then he flips to one passport in the stack: Barbados. Small island, doesn’t come across his desk often. He mentions, almost in passing, that he’s got a friend from there. They pause. “Who?”

He says my name. And the family, the same family who took me from food runner to manager, who built the foundation for the hospitality professional I am today, go: “Wait. We know Jamal.” In a hotel lobby, thousands of miles from that restaurant, the two people most responsible for my career just got recognized by name, by someone I met on a completely different continent for a completely different reason.

Hugo, being the attentive and professional person he is, suggested I write a note which I did and sent it to Hugo. He sent it up with a note of his own, plus an amenity for the family. ❤️

People talk about hospitality like it’s a service industry. It’s not, it’s a small world dressed up as one. The people who taught you, the people you meet along the way, the accents and passports that give you away in a lobby conti taken in Spain by @malgriffith
