hawai‘i moments incl. making my own company (it always stuns me how quickly SD starters revive — life yearns to live), climbing the starfruit tree, papa’s kitchen, daena’s serendipitous vanilla cake, quick parent pasta, a meal of OGs with my OGs, sugar “jungle juice” of the many varieties I had squirreled away, two toast two piece, y más 💜 taken in Island of Oahu by @maliaeating

lately, I find myself craving simple things. food eaten outdoors or as fuel to get outdoors, with one feverish anson mills rye brownie craving as a baked exception. apricot drips down my wrist, a box bulging with lychee arriving from the big island, ‘awa after a hike in the valley of kings, food shared with my oldest & newest connections, yellow rice like I used to eat when I was little, a peach that asked to be gobbled up in my bikini... different. different from elaborate, scribbled-research-recipe-long-hot-hours project bakes or mesmerizing mains, cookbooks bulging with post-it notes and wishes, but not worse. I love this too. taken in Kingdom of Hawai'i by @maliaeating

THINKING ABOUT GEORGIA GILMORE & THE CLUB FROM NOWHERE 🤍
Miss Gilmore used her culinary talents and organizing skills to feed and fund the 381-day Montgomery bus boycott by forming the Club From Nowhere, a clandestine group that prepared and sold savory meals (fried chicken sandwiches, fried fish, pork chops, greens, lima beans) and baked goods (peach pie, poundcakes) to raise $ for the resistance. She passed away in 1990 while preparing to feed people commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery marches. by @maliaeating

lil business on the top party in the in funfetti cake 🤠 I scaled down the milk bar recipe and subbed in coconut sugar / coconut oil / coconut yogurt then frosted it with a vanilla bean coconut cream 🤍 and topped w choco-vanilla meringue bows that taste like a chocolate shake 👢I had never been pleased w meringue I’d made before and I piped these w my new cowboy boots on so I guess that’s what I’ll have to do from now on! taken in Meringue & Confettis by @maliaeating
