Favorite thing about being Malian: “My favorite thing about being Malian is our tradition of hospitality. Welcoming others isn’t just a custom, it’s part of who we are. If you come to a Malian home, there’s about a 99% chance you’re leaving with a full stomach whether you planned on eating or not. We take pride in making people feel welcome, and saying “no thanks, I’m full” is usually just seen as the beginning of negotiations. It’s all done with genuine kindness, and it’s one of the things I love most about our culture. I also appreciate the strong sense of community among Malians. No matter where you go, another Malian somehow knows your family, your hometown, or at least someone who knows someone. It’s a reminder that home is never too far away.”

Our many ethnic groups each bring their own languages, traditions, music, and stories, making Mali a truly unique nation and every region has a deep heritage.
