Malibu Moves was created with a simple belief:
movement is more powerful when it brings people together.

Our third annual event is about unity, connection, and showing up for the community we love. It’s about creating space for people of all backgrounds, paces, and stories to move side by side along one of the most iconic coastlines in the world.

Purpose doesn’t always mean the same thing to everyone.
Sometimes it means giving back.
Sometimes it means healing, reconnecting, or starting fresh.

Here, all of that belongs.

What an absolute treat to be the Spotlight Speaker at the latest Connections Breakfast. 💛

But when you’re asked to speak about community and impact, that story shouldn’t be told alone.

So I invited two people to share the stage with me.

I spoke about the journey behind Malibu Moves and the belief that has guided us from the beginning: movement should have a place for everyone.

For runners. For walkers. For every pace and body. And absolutely for the person who says, “I’m not a runner.”

You don’t have to become someone else to belong at our start line.

But Malibu Moves was also created to do something beyond race weekend.

In just two years, we’ve donated more than $110,000 to charity, with the majority staying right here in Malibu. After the devastating fires, supporting our schools, youth and community recovery has become even more important.

Karin Al-Hardan, Executive Director of the Malibu Education Foundation, shared one of my favorite examples of that impact: Malibu Moves helped fund the launch of a middle school athletics program that has since secured ongoing public funding.

Something we helped start now gets to live on. ❤️

Then Mikke Pearson, former Malibu Mayor and Chair of the Community Brigade, shared something personal.

When I first challenged him to participate in Malibu Moves, he wasn’t sure.

He said yes anyway.

He rallied his family and crossed the 5K finish line holding hands with his wife, Maggie.

His takeaway? We can do hard things.

Sometimes we just need an opportunity to remind ourselves.

That was my invitation to everyone in the room: Fight for community events.

They bring us together. They help us know our neighbors. They create belonging. And they can turn goodwill into real, lasting impact.

And every once in a while, say yes to something outside your comfort zone. Maybe this year, that yes is Malibu Moves. 🌊
