HOW DID VIRGIL ABLOH impact you?
On the coldest day of 2022, I set out on an artistic mission. To creatively meander and to pay homage, to one of my favorite ARTISTS and designers, the Late Virgil Abloh. Who passed away two years ago on this very day.

I filmed this video LAST year actually, but we had paused on editing it until recently.
It was pretty heavy on my heart. His passing was due to an angiosarcoma
(a form of heart cancer) that really touched me. I am a widow to cancer and rather empathic to the journeys that widows and children go through.

I wanted to highlight the beauty of the garments that he designed and the illumination of his colorful spirit within this “micro film.” No poetry for this one, but the next one shall include it. We filmed it over two days, and I changed my look, intentionally throughout it. It was cold as ICE out there too.

AW19 Collection was one of the most vibrant and daring of his, to me. I literally had to, to find a way to get this coat and a matching blazer, not featured, in my collection. Took a while; late 2021. If you know me, or if you don’t, Inshallah the fashionable opportunity will often/always happen. I embrace that fashionable finders spirit with gratitude and joy.

Send love and prayers to his wife Shannon, his children, parents, family and friends. He is deeply missed. It was an honor to support and WEAR his dreams.

Rest in peace Virgil.

A long recap. Missing hella moments but I at least tried to capture a bit of it. The biggest takeaway themes from this year were: motherhood, faith (Iman), divine timing, utilizing gifts and DREAMING.

Nothing is ever perfect. Don’t ever let my reels or anyone else’s curated feed make you feel any type of way about yo life, Chile! Because life is real, we are all human and our tests be taking us through the ringers honey. Whether out loud or indoors. Okay!?! God shall test you, in one way or another.

Random thoughts:
Do your best to maintain, to stay afloat, to keep going, to build and uphold connections.

Motherhood is such an important path of mine and I’m honored to have been chosen for this job in raising mine. I’m really proud of who they are and what they represent. The earth needs kids/people like you all. 🤲🏽🥰🤲🏽

Write ✍🏽 it down. Spell it out. Plan it out. Start saying what you are going to do, to yourself. Wherever you are. Look at it often. Believe it and stay dreamy.

Family time across the states on FaceTime with everyone was super fun! My dad is a huge fan of Earth, Wind and Fire 🔥 and therefore we heard so many of their legendary albums growing up! We had a little family call in honor of the Twenty First Night of September and got to know about his experiences seeing them as a band in California in the 70’s and how their stage show and theatrics went!

Hoping that I get to see them in concert one day soon. This is such an incredible and legendary band and a big part of black musical, cultural history. If you don’t know who Earth Wind and Fire are, I advise you to go check out their discography entirely. Which is what I’ve been doing, and just dive in and enjoy the real music, sonic live instrumentation, and beautiful voices with a powerful and positive message.

Oops I forgot to post this from my drafts! A few weeks ago, I was invited to a first class of Grounded in Grace, taught by @soulspective at the lovely @rawspaceatl near Buckhead!

I truly needed the reminder that meditation is such an important intrinsic and beautiful way to ground yourself. I felt so elevated, so relaxed, so grounded in my thoughts. Now it did take me a few minutes to stop the extra chattering in my head. But I’m so glad that I was able to experience, peace and mental stillness. She took us to the sky through the cosmos and into the galaxy and brought us back down to earth. What a wonderful way to experience sisterhood through meditation while elevating your soul. I hope that you are able to join and sign up for her classes.

I know nothing of a perfect life. Like, absolutely nothing!! However I do understand a gratitude powered life. As humans we will waver, wax and wane in how we hold on to the energy of being grateful. It’s life, I absolutely get it. Some days I’ve had in the past I could only utter that I was “grateful that my eyes could blink.” (But look at how BIG of a blessing that actually is.) Eyesight and movement. Anyhow, reminders benefit everyone because we need them. I need them!

Most of the clips in this are from our big adventure cross country drive to Maine! I will always cherish that time with all of them and be forever grateful that we have them such a memorable time and excursion before going off for college! Thank you Allah for fulfilling some of my dreams!

A reminder to be grateful for all that has come and gone and what’s still here. You will be TESTED in life and you will also have MANY blessings. Be grateful to be apart of your own journey along with the good people in your life! Remember to be a good person in someone else’s life, in person or even digital. Just BE THERE. Life is incredibly short at times.

What can I say that I haven’t said to him yet? I’m proud of you, we are always in your corner and on your team! Start anew and maintain your faith, your dreams, your character, your scientific 🧪 ambition, and your love for the FUN in life! I know you will make a wonderful and compassionate veterinary doctor one day!
(He had me help him damn near do nasal surgery, exaggerating a bit) on Pikachu the lizard 🦎 he’s had for a decade, because her sinus cavity was full of a plug of hard keratinized skin and her breathing is a bit different until it falls out! That was so interesting! But his approach to her care and to other animals is remarkable!!

Stay safe, smart, determined and stay in love with learning! We are so happy you are at an HBCU now and look forward to your journey back “home.” May Allah bless you infinitely and always!

We had a nice double mother daughter date lunch with Zayna, her friend Jasmine, and her mother Julie!! Here’s to the start of a wonderful, brave, studious and adventurous academic year and a successful one as young women!

Shu’aib’s heading off to a new school,🏫 an HBCU this week! It’s rather hectic! I’m consciously choosing to breathe deeply and hold excitement 🤩 over anxiety 😦. Whew!!😰

A year ago to the DAY, I was on my way back to the USA… womp womp, but so refreshingly enlivened from a dreamy and super adventurous trip to the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire 🇧🇶. She’s a sister island to Curaçao 🇨🇼 and “I heard all the girls are going to Aruba 🇦🇼”

I’m not a typical lady, so I don’t choose typical places to go! Walahi! (And if that’s you boo, that’s ALL good 😊) The only time you’ll find ME out where errrbody and they momma is at, IS at Jumuah or a Beyoncè concert LOL 😂

Baybeee we like the off the beaten path, the lesser traveled 🧳, the cultural history, the states, towns, countries and islands where I can go with our own excitement, dreamy love 💕 and opinions and just figure it out!!

Until we meet again, I have functionally learned enough Dutch. Papiamento is like Spanish so I don’t really have to learn it, but when we return again, inshallah BIG inshallah, next year 🤲🏼📿we will traverse even deeper into the island!

I also made a 40 minute film that only 14 people saw about this excursion.
