Today, we made a ti leaf skirt for the very first time. It took our family 5 hours - and we felt your presence in every part of the process… ❤️‍🩹 It was healing to use our hands and hearts to play a small part in perpetuating your legacy. Watching the boys dance today brought all of us to tears…

You were kahiau in the flesh... your legacy will live on through Breeze, your 'ohana, and through every dancer and soul you touched with your grace, your aloha, and your heart for hula. We were blessed to know you for this short time. Our hearts go out to your `ohana - and all those who loved you and feel this loss deeply - during this difficult time…

A few months ago, I saw some advice on Instagram from a mom. She said, “When your kids hug you, try to NOT be the first to pull away”. #lifechanging

Research shows a 20 sec hug releases oxytocin and reduces stress. These hugs I’ve been getting from Jackson (12-years-old) average 4-7 minutes plus! Like... my arms hurt!
(In such a good way!!)

I encourage you to try it to add a little extra joy in your life! It’s been such sweet mommy-son moments for us. The hug in this video was 4 minutes and 32 seconds long… and the hug started before he started filming.

Shout to hubby for filming this sweet moment and being the steady cam for that long! 😆😘🩷

Please tag @thevoice_tf1 🙏🏻🇫🇷 (same account as The Voice Kids 👌🏼) I’m Franco-Algerian-American and grew up bilingual / studied in France.

This is a vulnerable post… and kind of “cringe” - I know I’m not the best singer on the planet, and my French is not perfect.

I also know that I LOVE to sing. And I know that I want to keep doing hard things - even if people will judge me, even if it makes me feel super uncomfortable, even it this feels embarrassing, even if the result is a “no” - because I want to be an example for my children that it’s never too late to follow your dreams, try something new, and put yourself out there. And that the feelings (sometimes negative) that pop up when you put yourself out there are normal, human feelings - a part of life. That’s what makes the joy, the highs, the positive stuff feel so great.

My bestie, her daughter and I have been talking about this for a few years now… and I finally did it!

I put together a singing reel and sent it off to @thevoice_tf1 for consideration in their audition process. The first attempt was last year and the audition process had already closed. They told me I could audition again for next season. I submitted my videos and basic information and have been waiting…. Months. More than 65,000 people audition for The Voice France each year and only 100 make it to the blind auditions. The chances are slim! But I would love to at least get a response “yes” or “no”… they said by late September / early October. I haven’t heard anything yet - sooooo I’m posting this hoping you guys might be able to help a girl out and get my audition on the radar. I don’t even know if anyone saw it at all… crossing fingers, and toes, and legs… all the things!

Blast from the past - 21 years ago! This moment changed my life. TBH wearing a crown on your head is weird… but the opportunities it gave me in my community, the scholarships, the friendships, and the networking were absolutely priceless.

I was getting my masters degree in the scientific study of human communication, and teaching public speaking to undergraduates as a part of my graduate program.

After crowning the next Miss Hawaii, I got hired as a French teacher at a local elementary school. One night while out with friends, I met a news director at a nightclub. They were starting a new morning show, and they were hiring. I auditioned and went through four different interviews before they hired me as their weekend weather girl. I enrolled in Mississippi state’s broadcast and operational meteorology program immediately. My Miss America scholarships paid for all of it.

These images remind me that I was still a child… trying to find my way… my value and purpose… and in many ways (though I’ve grown), I sometimes still feel like that young girl. I am still searching, growing, stepping outside of my comfort zone, and trying to find my place.

The crazy kid running around on the field prior to the game, acting silly, and supporting his mama… just turned 14! In my feels watching this as the kid grows older - and the stadium gets torn down.

Haven’t been on a weather wall in a while… a year? Two? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂🫣 It’s (kind of) like riding a bike except perimenopause has hijacked my brain! Clicking with one hand, pointing with the other, looking at the right screen, and ad-libbing the whole time is some mental exercise I haven’t had to do in quite some time!! 😜 LOL I survived - was it pretty? My little man turns SIX tomorrow... his legs are getting wayyyy too long for shoulder stands securely holding him under his armpits... he has to do a “shoulder crouch” these days 😂... and this video is from at least a year ago! 😱 I cannot believe my oldest is in Kindergarten and has ideas of his own. We’ve had to stop spelling words that we don’t want him to understand, because he can READ 🤦🏻‍♀️😂. He thinks there are ghosts in his room and won’t fall asleep alone then crawls into our bed early in the morning to cuddle, I tell him he needs to stop, but I secretly cherish those sweet moments. Today his teacher told me he looks out for his sister on the playground 💕. Last week, a little girl he didn’t even know stood up for him on the playground (another kid threw Jackson’s slipper over the fence). He told me he wanted to invite her to his birthday party. He only had one invite left of the ten and insisted it HAD to be her. After investigating we were able to figure out who she was... a friend’s daughter in fact... born just two days before him... kindred spirits I’m sure 💕. @lanai I’m SUPER ENVIOUS of your day at Makaha… I miss our daily missions out to the west side to play (train) in the water with @briankeaulana… I miss seeing the extended ohana… I miss the blue water… I miss hanging out with the uncles by the tree… I miss the Buffalo Big Board Surfing Contest… I miss getting salty… and I miss being surrounded by the beautiful hearts of all of my west side friends.
