Before 2019, running a marathon wasn’t even on my radar.

I had a newborn, a toddler, and zero plans to become a marathoner. But one race led to another, and before I knew it, the marathon had taken me on a journey I never expected.

Looking back, what inspires me most isn’t the Olympic qualification or the records. It’s the reminder that we often have no idea what’s still possible for us.

That’s why I’m excited to be launching Marathon Strong 40+ — a coaching program designed to help women 40+ pursue their running goals with smart training, support, confidence, and community.

Whether your goal is your first marathon, a personal best, or simply finding joy and consistency in your running again, I’d love to help.

Feel free to reach out if you’d like more information, and please share with any women in your life who might be interested. 😊

Also you are invited to join a free webinar June 22: How to Run Your Best Marathon in Your 40s and Beyond. (Links in bio). by @malindielmore

🗓️ Join us on Monday!

What happens when your peak athletic years and perimenopause collide? 💥

👉️ We're here to talk about it.

I can't wait for this honest conversation with Canadian Olympian and Coach @malindielmore

Malindi is well known for running some of her fastest times after age 40. And she is not alone in this camp of women who are demonstrating that age might actually be an asset (especially in endurance sport!)

Having a long career as an athlete is possible if you stay healthy. For female athletes, this often means navigating perimenopause.

We're going to chat about common challenges, worthwhile investigations, and management strategies that can make the difference between surviving and thriving in this life stage 💃

✔️ Mark it on your calendars. 🔗 Link in bio. 💸 And yes, it's free! by @malindielmore

Personal running update - I will be taking a little break from running / racing as I recover from a BSI (bone stress injury) in my femur. After back to back hilly races in April, I developed quad pain that continued to get worse in May. An MRI confirmed my suspicions last week. The good news is that setbacks are always an opportunity to learn and grow and make changes. There are many reasons for injuries but there are also many common themes.

This has also given me the chance to work on the “ideas in my head” while I run but never seem to have time to get off the ground. There is a reason that my new Marathon Strong 40+ is focussing on the needs of training for women as I do an audit of my own recovery, nutrition, strength and sleep habits as a runner who still holds ambitious future goals! I am hoping to be back later this fall stronger and fitter than ever! I am also enjoying my forced recovery / rest and using it as fuel for the future. by @malindielmore

Five years ago, I finished 9th at the Olympic marathon in conditions where the temperature and humidex climbed above 40°C (104°F).

I credit a large part of that performance to having a detailed plan for heat acclimation, hydration, and pacing.

As we head into summer, I want to share one of the tools that has helped both me and the athletes I work with worry less about hitting target paces and focus more on adjusting for the conditions.

One of the biggest mistakes runners make is trying to force their usual pace on a hot or humid day.

Heat and humidity increase the physiological cost of running, even when your fitness hasn’t changed.

For example, someone training for a 3-hour marathon may need to slow down by 10-20 seconds per kilometre—or even more—depending on the conditions.

A simple way to adjust your expectations is to use the VDOT calculator @vdot_o2

1️⃣ Determine your goal race pace.

2️⃣ Open the advanced features and enter the actual temperature.

3️⃣ If humidity is high, use the humidex (or “feels like”) temperature instead.

4️⃣ Determine AND stick to your revised heat paces! (Yes actually train for the conditions!)

The goal isn’t to prove your fitness.

The goal is to train smart enough that you can stay consistent all summer long.

☀️ what other heat strategies do you like to use in the summer (not running is NOT an option 😆). by @malindielmore

Over the past few days I’ve had the privilege of reading applications for the first Marathon Strong 40+ Founding Cohort.

I have to admit... I’m feeling incredibly inspired.

I’ve read about women who want to run their first marathon.

Women chasing a Boston qualifier.

Women hoping to set a personal best.

Women returning to running after time away from the sport.

Different goals.
Different stories.

But one thing keeps coming up.

A desire to train smart, stay healthy, and be part of a supportive community of women who understand the journey.

That’s exactly what I hoped Marathon Strong 40+ could become.

I truly believe that ambitious goals don’t have an age limit, and some of the best adventures are still ahead of us.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their story with me so far.

✨ I’d still love to hear from you.

Some of my best running happened after 40.

Not because I trained harder.

Because I learned to train smarter.

I learned that recovery matters.
Community matters.
Having big goals at every stage of life matters.

For a long time, I’ve wanted to create a place where women could pursue ambitious running goals while supporting one another along the way.

Today I’m excited to officially open applications for the first Marathon Strong 40+ Founding Cohort (link in bio).

If you’ve ever wondered whether your best running might still be ahead of you, I’d love to have you join us.

PS @tashawodak will also plan some future opportunities together so stayed tuned (and if you know her, this will appeal to wine lovers ❤️) by @malindielmore

Last December I ran my second fastest marathon at 45 years old.

Like a lot of runners, I immediately started thinking about the next goal.

But this year hasn’t gone according to plan (but isn’t over yet!!)

The setbacks have reminded me of something I thought I had already learned:

**Recovery is part of training.**

It’s easy to believe that doing more is always the answer. Especially as women balancing work, family, and a lot of responsibilities.

I’ve learned that sometimes the strongest thing we can do is step back, trust the process, and believe our best days aren’t behind us.

In an unexpected way, this season has given me the time and space to build something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time.

A community for women who want to pursue ambitious running goals while training smart, staying healthy, and supporting one another.

Because one of the biggest lessons running has taught me is this:

**Some of my best running happened after 40.**

**Maybe yours is still ahead of you too.**

Tomorrow I’ll be opening the Marathon Strong 40+ Founding Cohort, and I’d love to share it with you.

I am still keen to hear more:

A lot of people know me as an Olympian.

Fewer know that I almost walked away from running altogether.

There were injuries, setbacks, and years when the sport no longer brought me joy. I found other adventures, raised a family, and eventually rediscovered running at 39.

What happened next surprised me. My best running didn’t happen in my twenties. It happened later.

More importantly, it changed what I care about most.

These days, I’m inspired by helping other women discover what’s still possible for them.

I truly believe that ambitious goals don’t have an expiration date.

Maybe your goal is to run your first marathon.
Maybe it’s to come back after injury or kids.
Maybe it’s simply to find joy in running again.

I’d love to know:

Leave me a comment or send me a message.

And if you’d like to learn more about smart marathon training for women in their 40s and beyond, I’d love to have you join my free webinar on June 22.
