The Folger Shakespeare Library has opened “To Hear Her Speak,” which it calls the first comprehensive history of Black women and Shakespeare. Nearly 100 objects trace Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Phillis Wheatley and more.

Tony Elumelu is backing a proposed $15 billion pipeline of infrastructure projects across West Africa.

Organisers have picked 26 projects from more than 10 countries, covering energy, trade, minerals, agriculture and digital infrastructure. They’ll be pitched to lenders including UBA, Afreximbank, AFC and Africa50.

The pitch happens in November at the first West Africa Integration and Investment Summit in Sierra Leone.

With the midterms less than four weeks away, psychologists say election anxiety is weighing on Black Americans.

Nine in 10 Black women in one national survey said they’re unhappy with the country’s direction. About 37% of Black Americans doubt elections will be run fairly, compared with 27% of white Americans. Clinical psychologist Dr. Calvin Fitch calls it “disempowerment stress.”

A Rastafari group in The Bahamas plans to protest during King Charles’s October 27–29 visit and present him with a petition on slavery and colonial rule.

The Ethiopia Africa Black International Congress is asking Britain for formal acknowledgment of those injustices, reparatory compensation, and support for people of African descent who want to return to Africa.

The Palace says the tour won’t avoid Britain’s darkest chapters, but the King acts on ministerial advice and can’t change reparations policy himself.

In August 1972, Harlem Renaissance artists and intellectuals reunited at Duke Ellington’s townhouse, many for the first time in decades. William Greaves filmed it but died in 2014 before finishing.

His son David, one of the original cameramen, has completed it. Once Upon a Time in Harlem opens October 16 at Film Forum and Film at Lincoln Center.

Botswana is close to lifting its De Beers stake from 15% to about 25%, according to Bloomberg, which could clear one of the last hurdles to Anglo American’s exit.

The buyer, a consortium led by former De Beers CEO Gareth Penny, includes Namibia and Angola. The three governments would still hold less than half, short of the majority control President Duma Boko had sought.

In 1939, Augusta Savage turned “Lift Every Voice and Sing” into a 16-foot harp for the New York World’s Fair. Twelve Black singers formed its strings. When the fair ended, no one paid to save it, and it was destroyed.
