On recommendation of our friend Bartek, we next headed to the town Katowice.

[Katowice is the capital of Poland’s Silesian Voivodeship, located in the Upper Silesian metropolitan area in southern Poland, known for its transformation from a heavy industry and coal mining center to a modern hub for business, culture, and innovation. We only had two days here but we’re able to drink local and make friends at a couple of really cool beer bars, eat beautiful, traditional Silesian food, and visited the MUZEUM ŚLĄSKIE. Two days was not enough. taken in Katowice, Poland by @malissagatton

Just above the north bank of the Columbia River, farmer Oliver planted himself some Crocus sativus, better know as the fall blooming or saffron crocus.

I was lucky enough to get to harvest the first crop. Y’all, I have cooked with dried saffron in my life, but good golly, freshly harvested saffron is one of the loveliest things I have ever smelled. It’s this gorgeous and intoxicating melange (the drama is warranted here) of rose-floral and citrus - stunning aroma. by @malissagatton

Smells like team spirit.

I am so lucky to work with some of the best folks in the hop industry at @haas_hops There are many not pictured that make it possible for us to breed, plant, string, train, grow, maintain, harvest, dry, bale, truck, process, QA/QC, R&D, sensory, brew, warehouse, logistics, market, make pretty/fun, finance, legal, lunch, happy hour (with pups!) - you get the picture. by @malissagatton

Had a flick through the past years pictures, trying to find something poetic and such which I'd not posted.

2024 was a funny old year, lots of emotions and all that. There was a positive breakpoint though, in the garden of new friends up in Naches Yakima. People who welcomed me with open arms, kindness and hospitality. Made me be less of an "Eeyore" (as Phil puts it) and see a more positive outlook for life.
