Grandpa Hitler, drawn in charcoal.

I’m so grateful I got to meet my grandpa-in-law even if it was only a few times. He was a remarkable man and I could tell how much he loved his family!🤍 by @malissas.art

This is my final portfolio for AP Art, including my artist statement:
This series is about perfection. I’ve often felt the need to be perfect in my every day life, especially as an artist living in a world where media encourages it. I began my exploration of perfection by doing research on the Greek’s ancient art. The Greeks were fixated on portraying the perfect body and they believed that bodily perfection was powerful. They exaggerated reality by creating something more human than human. I was fascinated not only by the Greek’s beliefs on idealism, but also that maybe the cultures we live in today are influenced by the ancient artworks. Looking at today’s world, we seek perfection in all areas of life and have expectations that aren’t always achievable.
I felt that the Greek’s ancient art embodied idealism, so I decided to use Greek statues in attempt to portray perfection. I used photographs, collage, pencil, and paint to create the Greek statues. I also wanted to convey what perfection means to me, so I used a poem that I wrote for the collaged letters in the backgrounds. The variation of letters can represent imperfection, which states the idea that “perfection is not ideal”. by @malissas.art

I’ve always had a hard time filling out sketchbooks because I’m a perfectionist, but I’ve learned to care less about how my art looks and draw for my own pleasure. these pages are from observations at the Getty Villa, The Met, and places I love. by @malissas.art

it’s mother’s day and I just finished 12 drawings (for my AP portfolio) of my beautiful grandma Malissa, who died the year before I was born. although I’ve never met her, I know she was an amazing lady and I can’t wait for the day that I do.<3 by @malissas.art
