When we speak about culture, we often celebrate the artists, entertainers, and creators who shape it. But we don’t always acknowledge the institutions that have quietly provided the stage for culture to flourish.

For 50 years, Eko Hotel & Suites has been at the forefront of the cultural life of Lagos — welcoming presidents and global leaders, including President Bill Clinton; hosting the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs); and becoming a home for some of the biggest names in African entertainment, music, fashion, business, and the arts.

For five decades, Eko has represented a true center of excellence — not simply as a hotel, but as an institution woven into the social, cultural, and economic fabric of Lagos.

It was an honor to support the Sales & Marketing team during this historic 50th anniversary year under the leadership of the marketing extraordinaire, Iyadunni Gbadebo, and to have the opportunity to work with the immensely talented Wyclef Jean and his team.

Moments like these remind me why I believe so deeply in the power of culture, hospitality, and strategic partnerships to shape how cities and nations are experienced and remembered.

Congratulations to Eko Hotel & Suites on 50 remarkable years of excellence, impact, and unforgettable moments.

Here’s to the next 50. 🥂

Thank you everyone for all the love you have shown me for my birthday from near, far, and wide! I’m so grateful for all of you.

This year, I was in limbo about celebrating my birthday but some of the amazing people in my life made sure it was so special for me.

We had so much fun and I’m grateful for everyone that came out to celebrate with me. I know that it was a big sacrifice with the short notice and rainy weather, especially on a Monday night!

SN: The winners of the Night was #TeamChampion because the Nicki Minaj performance blew my mind 🤣

Thank you to @surulerefoodcourt for the tasty jollof and fried rice!

Thank you to @greenessence_hl for the great juices!

Thank you to @africanchop for the delicious Cameroonian puff puff!

Thank you to @jayascravings for the amazing meat pies, chicken pies, and my gorgeous pink cake (I was so surprised).

And thank you to my hosts @datariladejo and @mayowaladejo who went above and beyond to make my birthday so special. Love you guys!

🎶There will be joy in the morning, there will be joy in the morning. Oh, child of God cry no more. There will be joy in the morning.🎶

Growing up, I used to hear my Cameroonian Aunties sing this song. I’m reminded of this often. I’m thankful for a God who is faithful and just.

This month (my birthday month 💃🏾), I pray you experience miracles. I pray you experience joy. I pray you are reminded of the sovereignty of God.

Happy June!

P.S. Yesterday, my big sis Dolly got married so I entered June with too much joy. Can you tell? 🤗

It’s such a gift to know great people with great talent, but it’s a greater gift to know great people with huge hearts.

Today, I celebrate my dear friend who graduated from one of the best film schools in the world, the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema this past weekend.

I’m so proud of how you push the envelope and continue to go above and beyond with great excellence. Although, you came to USC already a formidable force the world has yet to see even a fraction of what you have to offer.

So grateful for the bond USC gave us and grateful for the brother that I have in you. Thank you for consistently showing up for me!

Congrats, to THE @fiyin.gambo! Let the blessings continue to flow!

Job 13:15 KJV says, thou he slay me yet will I trust Him.

Even in our darkest hours, we can see the faithfulness of God.

We are especially grateful for our community the love, donations, time, sacrifices, well wishes, and continuous support from all over the world.

On behalf of the Mahop Family, we are thankful for how so many of you have stood by us during this time.

We understand that our words may not be suffice, but where our words fail, may the Lord outstretch His arm in blessings that only He can give.

God bless you all 🤍🙏🏾 taken in Dallas, Texas by @malizmahop

The last time, I was in Cameroon I was a little girl and it was just me and my father.

Last month, it was my first time returning as an adult when my family buried him in his favorite place, Limbe.

Since December, my family and I have planned for his numerous homegoing celebrations from Dallas, Texas to Limbe, Cameroon.

I had cried over these months, but not often. I was too immersed in our preparations.

Grief is so interesting, because it was not until we began to walk away from the burial grounds that it dawned on me that indeed my father’s earthly presence was no longer with us.

My younger brother told me he had never heard me scream like that. I don’t think I had ever heard me scream like that, but my mind, body, soul, and spirit had finally come to terms with our new reality.

We will cherish the memories we have with my father forever and hold his legacy bright in our lives 🤍🕊️.

December 25th, 2025, my life changed forever. I have been through a lot of challenging things in my life, but losing my father has been the most difficult yet.

Returning from Cameroon after burying my father on March 28th, 2026, has left me with a sense of finality about what my new reality holds.

My daddy was a man of the people. He gave himself selflessly to help others, even at the cost of himself. He enjoyed every moment of his life, even on his last day on Earth.

He was Mr. Fix-It; he was a problem solver. My dad was always willing to figure something out for a stranger or a friend. He helped countless immigrant families establish themselves in the U.S. He cared deeply for his community.

These past months, as my family and I have planned his homegoing celebrations, have been a greater testament to the lives he touched.

I am reminded in 1 Thessalonians 4, not to grieve as those who have no hope. Although my dad is no longer here in his earthly vessel, his spirit will live within me and the loved ones he left behind forever.

Rest in perfect, eternal peace, my Daddy. I love you. 🤍🕊️ by @malizmahop

Last month, I had the pleasure of speaking at the Global Africa Summit in Washington, D.C. When I was asked to co-curate and moderate a discussion on Africa’s creative industry during International Monetary Fund Week, it was an easy yes!

Africa’s creative sector contributes approximately $58 billion to the continent’s GDP and employs millions across the region. Industries such as film and television, music, and fashion are driving this growth and creating meaningful opportunities for youth and women.

It was incredibly encouraging to see such high engagement during our session, with an audience that spanned several sectors.

Thank you to my phenomenal panel—Dr. Victory Njoku, Curtis Smith, and Shiri Achu—for their insightful contributions to the conversation.

And a special thank you to Jane Reindorf-Osei and the entire GAS team for the invitation and for hosting such a value-driven summit. Jane, you are a powerhouse, and I applaud your unwavering commitment to this work!

If you are interested in attending the Global Africa Summit, the next conference will be held December 11th–12th in Accra, Ghana. Visit @globalafricasummit for more information. taken in Washington, D.C. by @malizmahop
