POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
My Yiayia passed away on the first of the month, with the brusqueness and efficiency that only this woman could find in death.

On my most recent visit with her, I found myself prying into her life, sensing that I had limited time to get to know who she was.

Her parents being immigrants from Cyprus has always been at the core of our family identity. And while she took great pride in her Greekness, she would never be described as particularly forthcoming with sentimentality for the past.

Over the last few years, I was lucky enough to have work bring me to New England regularly, and I was able to spend more time with her. We shared book recommendations, and discussed the state of the world. The last book she left sitting on her table, to be left unfinished, was titled 'Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump.'

I came to see how passionate she was about what she felt was right, politically, environmentally, and to no-one's surprise, in the kitchen.

In one of these conversations, regarding the overwhelming experience of learning a new language, we were able to speak more about her parents, and their journey through Ellis Island and their early life in Queens.

Seeing these photos, I have a particular lens through which i see them, having photographed so many weddings of children of immigrants. I know for certain that they must have been glowing with pride. It's rarely nothing short of a dream for them, being able to throw a party for friends and family, to give away their beautiful, and strong, Greek-American daughter.

I'm not allowing myself to miss her yet, as she is still right there, in her big chair, right where we left her. But I know that soon, the missing will settle in. How will we continue to be pridefully Greek without you, our Queen? by @maloriekerouac

It has been two years since my last job in Italy... almost four since this one! Every time, I think to myself that I can't take it anymore... it's too far (and it's so hot!) traveling with all the gear... but every time... photographing Italians, as an American woman, is such a wonderful gift, especially as a mother. Because nobody pays attention to me. It's like a carnival... being surrounded by so many joyful moments, but in reality finding myself completely alone. taken in Lago di Como, Italy by @maloriekerouac

Linda & Steven...!

I've been having a hard time conveying what it was about your wedding that made it so delightful.. what i've come up with is that it felt like all the best parts of Prom or Homecoming Dances... like, If we could have gone back and planned it ourselves, and only invited the people we liked... that is what this was, I think.

You reminded me what the core of a good wedding really is, and i'm so inspired by your playfulness, dedication to friendship and family, and your commitment to games and group involvement.

honored to have been your photographer @lllindaxl & @schen207 <3.

it's hard to formulate why it's so hard to show up on instagram when you have a child without childcare, friends and family that you are close with, and a slate of clients that you are (madly) in love with. every ounce of energy is split between these groups, and it's hard. hard because you can feel that the less you post, the less work you get, yet to post requires (for no logical reason) a silly amount of time.

most days, despite how non-stop each one is, i feel aware that i'm not doing enough... that i'm not performing, and not keeping up with this somewhat ruthless and hyperactive industry.

i (often) wonder if i have some autoimmune disease.. because why else would i be so tired on so much caffeine.. and why else would i be struggling to show up on a platform that i used to have nothing but time for. it's so easy, should be so quick and painless on paper.

we (women who work and are also home with children) get told so often 'but you are doing great! go easy on yourself!'

this is (perhaps) true, and it's always good to be reminded, but we can get to the heart of that logic easily enough, we are actually very smart women. but the more powerful truth is that not being paid for motherhood will always make me feel like i'm not providing. and with a job as abstract and playful as this one, it already feels like your work isn't 'hard' enough.

the combination can really be quite powerful, and i constantly undermine myself and how exhausting it all is. and i swear this is not a pity call, or an attention grab, it's just the thoughts that i had today as i opened instagram to post (after 4 days of snoozing the alarm to post) and if it means i finally post, then i will leave this diary entry on the internet. by @maloriekerouac

I read this and underlined it because it made me smile,

‘They are all red. I only grow geraniums that are red; it’s the best colour for them, and if I want other colours I grow other things.’

It made me smile because it’s the truth. And I deeply relate, I grow Geum for red, Delphinium for purple, Shasta daisies for white and yellow, I am so sick of yellow tulips.

I love when people just unapologetically announce things like this. It’s a certainty or a confidence that only comes from having been paying attention. Molly and Sam you are this way, it’s what makes you so fun to talk to, I think!
