An overdue introduction 👋🏼

I’m Jess - mum, stepmum and founder of Mamacita.

Nearly two years in, a lot has changed. But the reason we started it hasn’t. We wanted to hold the mother too.

There have been brilliant bits, difficult bits, a lot of learning as we go and so many of you who have bought, gifted, messaged, shared and come back along the way.

Two years in, and still very much figuring it out.

I’m by no means an expert, and this is certainly not an exhaustive list. There are so many more lessons, mistakes and behind-the-scenes moments that I could (and probably will) talk about.

Building Mamacita has been harder than I ever imagined. There have been plenty of moments where I’ve questioned what I’m doing, whether I’m getting it right, and whether all the time and energy is worth it.

But two years on, we’re still here, still learning, and still excited about what we’re building.

We’re very much at the beginning of our journey. There’s a lot we’re working on, plenty we want to improve, and we’re constantly learning from the people who matter most, our customers.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who’s supported us so far, whether you’ve placed an order, shared a post or simply followed along. It means more than you probably realise.

And if you’re thinking about starting something of your own, I hope there’s something in here that helps. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you begin.

Last Thursday, Mamacita turned two. A little late to our own party, but there’s still cake. 🎂🤍

When we started we had plenty of ideas and a slightly optimistic view of how many uninterrupted hours there were in a day. That part hasn’t chagnged much.

Two years of parcels packed, names embroidered and beautiful messages that remind us why we started. Mamacita began with a simple belief: the mother deserves to be celebrated and held, too. That still sits at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you for every order, recommendation and kind word. Most of all, thank you for trusting us with those moments when you want a mother to feel thought of. You’ve helped us build something that means so much to me.

Here’s to year three and everything to come. And finally, cake.

There is so much language around motherhood that asks us to return.

Our bodies. Our work. Our clothes. Our social lives. Ourselves.

But becoming a mother isn’t something you pass through unchanged.

There can be grief in that. And freedom. You can miss parts of the woman you were without wanting your old life back.

Maybe we need to talk a little less about getting ourselves back and a little more about getting to know who came next.
