Eurypterids, also known as sea scorpions, are a group of extinct marine arthropods. We learned about them in homeschool last month and it was really fun to have a plushie version as a lesson prop!

Happy release day to the @twigandtale Cascades Cloak!

I had the pleasure of joining the Sew + Show team for the Cascades Cloak and received a complimentary copy of the pattern in exchange for sharing my experience sewing it up.

This epic cloak is definitely not my typical sewing project! But it was a good opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and sew something different.

The finished cloak is dramatic and makes me feel like I’m straight out of the pages of a fairytale or Pride and Prejudice. It’s definitely a fun addition to my wardrobe. And it pairs perfectly with my Twig & Tale Wildvine Corset Top!

As the nights grow longer and the veil thins, now is the perfect time to make room for ritual and reflection.

These herbs have long been woven into rituals of protection & remembrance, and can be powerful allies for attuning to ancestral wisdom and embracing the magic of the season.

👻 Mugwort — In European and Asian folklore, Mugwort was used to protect travelers and dreamers crossing the threshold between worlds. Burned as incense or steeped as tea, it was said to awaken visions and ancestral wisdom.

👻 Marigold — In Día de los Muertos traditions, the bright orange and yellow blooms of Marigold are believed to guide souls home with their bright color and distinct scent. Across cultures, they symbolize the eternal cycle of life, death, and renewal.

👻 Pomegranate — In Greek mythology, Persephone’s bite of the pomegranate bound her to the underworld. Its crimson seeds symbolize descent, transformation, and the promise of return as the seasons change.

👻 Pine — In Celtic, Norse, and Slavic traditions, evergreens were used in rites to honor the spirits who watched over the home through the dark months. Pine resin and needles were burned to purify spaces and invite blessings from ancestral spirits.

👻 Rosemary — Ancient Greeks and Romans laid sprigs of Rosemary upon graves, believing its fragrance strengthened memory and love beyond death. Long a symbol of remembrance, it connects us to those who have passed on, but still live in our hearts.

I had the pleasure of testing this lovely pattern and must admit that I'm completely obsessed! After sewing this pair with back pockets and side stripes for my oldest, I immediately had to make a pair with side pockets for each of my younger kids. They're so easy and satisfying to sew!

🦉Spectacled Owl (Pulsatrix perspicillata) | Birdtober Day 8

This large tropical owl is found in Mexico, as well as parts of South and Central America.

For Birdtober this year, I’m focusing on the birds found here in Ecuador. While they aren't super common in our area, a pair of spectacled owls was recently spotted at a local nature reserve!

I sewed this felt iteration using a self-drafted pattern, which I’m sharing for free in my online shop when you use code BIRDTOBER through the end of the month. 🔗 in bio.

🐦 Paradise tanager (Tangara chilensis) | Birdtober Day 6

This brightly colored songbird is native to the Amazon rainforest and can be found in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela, and Brazil.

For Birdtober this year, I’m focusing on the birds found here in Ecuador, and this was a fun one to start with!

When I lived in Michigan, I was obsessed with pumpkin spice flavored coffee grounds from a local coffee company. ☕️

Inspired by that delightful blend, I decided to make my own version with clove and other spices mixed right into the coffee grounds.

It’s a super simple way to make your own flavored coffee at home, and the warming spices make it perfect for sipping on cool autumn mornings and throughout the holiday season. Add a little frothed milk for a homemade latte, or enjoy it with cream or sweetener to taste.

The Holly Skirt sewing pattern by @sew.bonnie is now available 🪡

The Holly skirt is a fully adjustable wrap skirt that comes in 2 lengths, above the knee & midi. And it has pockets!

I had the opportunity to test this lovely pattern and really enjoyed it. It’s super quick and easy to sew. And the finished skirt is so comfy and versatile.

This pattern is also very beginner friendly, so if you’re looking to get started sewing your own clothes, it would be a perfect first project!
