📚 The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni 5***** is a beautifully written book. This book is Mahabharata through Draupadi’s POV. @divakarunichitra has beautifully portrayed Draupadi as a flawed woman, with her shortcomings and vices, driven by anger, vengeance against the men who humiliated her. For me Panchali is a true feminist who says “ The more people dissuaded me, the more determined I became. Perhaps that has always been my problem, to rebel against the boundaries society has prescribed for women”. She might played a role to start the war but what she did after for the rights of the women in her kingdom is rarely ever talked about. For a person who has never read Mahabharata, reading this beautiful book showcasing the characters in their most humanly way, was the experience I enjoyed the most. Totally recommend it. Have you read The Palace of Illusions. I can’t get over Draupadi’s feelings for Karna . Do you think Karna was wronged in so many ways starting from his birth and it would have been different if he had known his truth earlier? Is there a similar book on epics like Mahabharata/Ramayana for a person who has not read any of these? Share in comments so I can read them. Lock Every Door by @riley.sager 📚 Having lost her job and boyfriend on the same day, heartbroken Jules agrees to an apartment sitting job at Manhattan’s historical, ancient building The Bartholomew. She needs to stick to the job for 3 months to get paid and have a free lodging. The job comes with strange rules, no visitors ever, she has to be back to the apartment for the night, cannot talk or disturb other residents. While all this rings a danger bell for Jules, she desperately needs to be here as she has no money, no place to live, no family to fall back to.
Her friend Chloe warns her of the horrific stories associated with Bartholomew, of deaths, suicides, strange disappearances of previous apartment sitters. The building itself has eerie and spooky details hidden everywhere.

Her fellow apartment sitter, Ingrid befriends her and warns her of something mysterious happening in the building. The next day Ingrid disappears without any warning and that’s when Jules decides to look for her. She doesn’t want her to be the next missing person on the city just like her own sister Jane who went missing years ago not to be found again.

During her search for Ingrid, Jules uncovers horrifying secrets related to Bartholomew, she is convinced there have been multiple murders there. Are there ghosts of people who have been murdered, trying to tell something?
Are the residents a part of Occult group?

None of this is true 📚What a mind blowing thriller by Liza Jewell @lisajewelluk It’s a story that you keep reading just to find out what is going to happen even though have an intuition about it all along.

Alix Summers and Josie Fair are birthday twins who meet each other during each other’s 45th birthday celebration. Josie’s obsession over Alix, her life begins from here. She starts bumping into Alix deliberately, convinces her to have a podcast on her life.

Alix has an almost perfect life with a beautiful house, a successful and supportive husband and two kids. Other than her husband’s recent drinking problems her life is normal from outside.
Josie on the other hand has a very disturbed life, a husband who is twice her age, 2 daughters with very disturbed lives. Josie decides to make a huge change in her life by taking things in her control.

Josie tells Alix all about her life, her decisions, her experiences during the podcast. Alix is blown away by what she hears but this is one version of the story, Josie’s version. Will it be the same version Josie’s mother, her husband, her daughter’s would have too?

The story is told in a podcast series and is a very interesting read. Even when you know what might be coming your way, it’s difficult to keep the book down. Loved it thoroughly. 📖 Paper heart by Cecilia Ahern 2.5 *

I picked this book remembering how much I had loved P.S. I love you by Cecelia Ahern.

This didn’t feel the same, nevertheless a nice warm story.

Pip, a 32 year old, single mother to a 16 year old Bella, lives with her extremely controlling and narcissistic mother Josephine and father Philip. 16 years ago when Pip got pregnant, she lost her freedom, her confidence and had to give up all her dreams of the future she had wanted and imagined with Jamie, her then boyfriend and father of her child. Josephine took over raising Bella, almost claiming to be her mother, and kept Pip and Jamie away from being parents to Bella. Jamie was sent away from Ireland to Liverpool, with limited contact to his child. Pip, though living with Bella was not allowed to know Bella.

And then Pip meets Io, a scientist who has come to the local observatory who tells Pip to look upto to the stars. Make one change everyday. Happiness is the pursuit. It’s the journey, it’s in the discovery, the learning, the listening, the following, the trying, the hoping.
Beautiful story of rediscovering oneself but the characters lacked some depth in my opinion.. overall a sweet motivational story. Are you looking for your next spooky thriller, then look no further. I’d recommend The House across the lake by Riley Sager. It has all the elements of a good thriller with a lot of eerie, spooky, ghosty elements. The book is packed with plot twists not just towards the end of the book but all through it, which will definitely make you scream “huh what”. Yesssss I had to watch the movie @thelovehypothesismovie Did I love the book? Yes, it was a fun read. Did I love the movie? Yes, i enjoyed it, i was giggling, smiling, enjoying the chemistry between Adam and Olive. Did the movie adaptation do absolute justice to the book? Hmm, No it did not. But then which movie ever did that. I have and may be always will be Team Book.
