I’d like to think I’m a pretty generous rater. My most common rating is 4⭐️. If I finish a book and it leaves any kind of impact on me, it’s almost automatically a four-star read. 5⭐️ ratings are much rarer, but when a book earns one, I can’t stop thinking about it for days.

Have y’all seen the movie adaptation of CoHo’s Verity?! 🎬📖

I read this book in March, so I was SO excited when news of the movie adaptation surfaced. I thought the movie was actually really well done, even though it left out quite a few details from the book. They managed to condense the story while still keeping all of the major key elements intact.

That said, I still think the book was better, but Anne Hathaway has RANGE. 👏🏼🎭

FLOORED.

Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe

Genre: Dark Dystopian Romance

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I finished Daggermouth two weeks ago, but I have been too stunned to speak. I needed some time to PROCESS, because I think this might be my favorite book I’ve read so far this year. Now that I can actually put my thoughts into words, and no longer feel the urge to scream every time I think about it, here is my humble review. 😂

Non-spoilers:

First and foremost, the writing? IMPECCABLE. Word 👏🏼 choice 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 SO 👏🏼 important. 👏🏼

Secondly, the characters are phenomenally hot. 😂 Why am I in love with ALL of them??

Third? The PLOT was so intricate, which made the twists that much more mind-blowing. Every time I thought I had things figured out, this book said, “Think again.”

Needless to say, I am SO glad there’s a Book 2 because I am absolutely not ready to let these characters, or this story go. Help me! I can’t stop thinking about it!

Pretty Dead Things by Kelsey Cox 🥀

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review: I had the honor of meeting Kelsey Cox over the summer, and she was just as incredibly sweet as I imagined! 🥹📚

This book took me somewhere completely unfamiliar: the beauty pageant world. It felt like stepping into unknown territory, and I loved that feeling of uncertainty mixed with intrigue. Even better, the story takes place in the Hill Country near Austin, so getting to read about familiar Texas territory made it even more fun for me!

One of my favorite parts was the way Kelsey explored all the different mother-daughter relationships throughout the book. As a mother to a daughter myself, I could understand why some of these mothers made the choices they did to protect their girls. It definitely made some of their decisions hit a little differently for me.

Now, if I’m being completely honest… that ENDING. 😩

I enjoyed the book, but the ending left me feeling so unsettled. I love a fair ending, and this twist had me sitting there in a whirlwind of injustice. The fact that the murderer gets away with killing someone innocent while an another innocent person is left to take the blame just did not sit right with me.

And yet… despite my feelings about the ending, it was still such a thrilling read, and I’m genuinely so happy I read it! Sometimes a book that leaves you frustrated is the one you can’t stop thinking about. 👀📖

I started work again this month, so finding time to read was definitely a challenge! 📚🥹 I’m so grateful I was still able to squeeze in these wonderful books. ❤️
