Listening to the last voicemail I received from my dad, will never get easier. 😭❤️‍🩹 Growing up, things were toxic between my parents, and watching the way he treated my mom left me with a lot of hurt and anger. But despite everything, my dad was an amazing father to me. And that’s what makes this so hard. I can acknowledge the hurt while still missing the man who loved me and my babies so much.

That entire week before he passed, he kept calling me. I kept ignoring his calls, thinking it would just be the same old BS and that things would never change.

The truth is, I was reacting to years of hurt, not knowing I was about to lose him. I thought there would be another day, another conversation, another chance. I never imagined those missed calls would become some of my biggest regrets. 💔

Now, as a mother, I think about my own babies and how I never want to leave this earth with things left unsaid between us. I never want my children to carry the kind of regret I carry & result to listening to a voicemail wondering what if.

If you still have your parents, please cherish the moments you have. Have the hard conversations. Give grace & Forgive when you’re ready. You can acknowledge the hurt someone caused you without waiting until they’re gone to realize how much you wish you had more time.

Once they’re gone, you can’t call them back. You can’t take back the missed calls. And you can’t go back and choose differently. 😭

Dad, I hope you know that even through all the hurt, I never stopped loving you. I just wish I had one more chance to answer that phone, tell you I love you, and hear you say it back. 😭❤️‍🩹 If I could go back, I’d answer every single time. I love you forever, pop. Until we meet again. 🕊️🤍

It’s your birthday month, Dad. 🥺❤️‍🩹

I was so caught up in my hurt and anger that I never imagined I’d spend the rest of my life wishing I could go back and do things differently. I spent so much time trying to teach you about forgiveness, only to learn that same lesson in the hardest way possible. Some days I’m okay, and other days the grief hits out of nowhere.

I’m learning that I don’t have to keep serving a life sentence for a moment I can’t change. I just wish I had more time. In my healing journey, I’m discovering more about myself and realizing just how much you and I are alike.

Sometimes, we spend years trying to understand our parents, only to grow older and start recognizing pieces of them in ourselves. The way we love, the way we react when we’re hurt, our stubbornness, our pride, even the things we struggle to forgive. & maybe part of my healing is learning to forgive you, learning to forgive myself, and learning to love the parts of me that remind me of you. I’ll forever be grieving you daddy & I hope you know just how much I love you 🤍
