For seven years, I lived in a dissociative identity. I had to believe that I was not a woman, to stay disconnected from my experiences and thereby keep myself alive. In 2024, I artistically started ‘Finding Form’. As part of this process, I retraced and poured my figure with banana fiber paper pulp. After pouring the second layer, heavy rainfall broke it.
Stern sunbeams dried it,
and the torso flew away with the wind.
Nowhere to be found.

This happened in March 2025, as I was nearing figuring out how I myself had been broken. This 2d paper work has come to represent this part of my journey, having gained the ability to face violence and truth with the guidance of the natural spiritual world. The ability to expand multidimensionally.

In the first week of June 2025, I got my memory back of r*pe and started remembering who I was/am in this life.

I have now made my shape again, in 3d. I poured big paper sheets, again with banana fiber paper pulp. Then, I molded these over my own body. Therefore, this piece reflects the acquired ability to directly use my body. To touch my body. My reclamation of life and living in the 3D-physical world.

The coloring used in this piece comes from the Achiote plant, and is called Ruku in Papiamentu. I have done this to share my connectivity with the natural spiritual world, my ability to resurrect what is suppressed by colonial and sexual violence, my ability to impart this wisdom, and my dedication to doing so. I draw with it on my body for protection. Specifically on the palms of my hands, I have come to work with Ruku to seal bonds. For me, it signifies:

“I am one with you.”
“I will listen to you.”
“I will protect you.”

Help me, A BADASS, start her life! 💗⚔️💅🏻

My name is Talitha. I was born on Curaçao and grew up in the Netherlands with my drug-addicted dad, my mom, and my sister. At 22 years old, I was r*ped, which caused me to spend 7 years of my life in a dissociative identity and with severe dysfunction. I got myself back from this in June 2025. I came forward with my story to everyone I knew, either directly or by sharing publicly through my art. Since then, I have been met with extremely poor treatment. All the abandonment, neglect and cowardice resulted in me becoming homeless in December 2025 and going into psychosis in January this year. A few weeks ago, I suddenly heard that I was number 1 on the waiting list for housing from a Foundation that has housing for people with low incomes.

Now, I am asking for your financial support to help me move in ASAP and buy a fridge, washing machine, bed, furniture, and other necessities.
You will be supporting a badass Medicine Woman who mostly shares her gifts through her art and is also like just your fellow human being? Help me start my life in which I will keep working to resurrect what colonial and sexual violence try to oppress. Bless.

Love is everywhere. I was blessed to find it in papermaking with the banana plant, my partner in creation.

This is a little banana fiber paper when it is still wet.

A MOUTH WAS GIVEN TO YOU TO USE YOUR VOICE 🌬

Last year, I was a resident @productiehuis.nowhere. I organized my first ever exhibition (congratulations are in order!) “The Gift of Remembrance/My Story of Resurrection After R * p e” BY MYSELF and created my performance “The Circle of Life” in which I honor the earth, the ancestors, the stars, reconnecting, remembering, and feeling, especially anger.
These images and clips are from my performance that I shared at the Maker in Huis Festival at Productiehuis Nowhere on the 12th & 13th of December.

What you are seeing here is pure exhaustion and devastation.

What you are seeing is homelessness, having no money for food, having had almost weekly EMDR sessions since July without care afterward or in between or really barely at all. I have been abandoned and abandoned and abandoned with destruction as a consequence. I was trying to make a full-on theater production, BY MYSELF. I was working like crazy, creating ancestors out of paper for me to form a circle with. The body parts were piling up in my friend's living room. I had previously tried working in their garden (also like crazy), but that was too cold. My friend even got a letter from their housing corporation telling them to clean the garden. 😂

I LOST MY VOICE THE DAY BEFORE I HAD TO PERFORM. I was furious and crying SO HARD. I amped up the teas. I started inhaling-drinking-eating honey, ginger, garlic, thyme, rosemary, and sage like CRAZY, and stopped talking. Thanks to them, I was able to use my voice after all. 🫶🏻

What you are seeing here is pure passion and fire.

There is no pain that society can ever make me feel that is greater than my love and persistence. That is the energy we bring forth.

The exhaustion and devastation I leave behind. I let the performance be a spoken word performance for now. To materialize vision and intuition with care. Taking time and space. Finding more of those people who are courageous. Those who don’t compromise on love and care. The people that feel. The people that are furious and rightfully so.

EXHIBITION 26-30 NOVEMBER

The Gift of Remembrance / My Story of Resurrection After Sexual Violence
by Talitha Marsman Ruiz – Mountain and Island

We are honored to invite you to the opening of Talitha Marsman Ruiz’s first-ever exhibition, The Gift of Remembrance / My Story of Resurrection After Sexual Violence.

Talitha, born on Curaçao with roots in the Andes, creates as a community organizer and artist through ritual, listening, and ancestral guidance. Her work manifests through writing, spoken word, and papermaking with the Banana Plant and the Agave plant. She (re)searches togetherness and timelessness within the constraints of coloniality and brings forward what has been suppressed by colonial and patriarchal violence.

In this exhibition, Talitha shares intimate and sacred moments from her journey of reconnection after seven years of dissociation—guided by the natural and spiritual world toward remembering her wholeness. She shares this work because no one should have to move through the pain of disconnection alone.

Visitors will encounter handmade paper works, poetry, video recordings from key points in her healing, a broken paper form laid on the ground, an altar for reflection and interaction, and, at the back of the space, a visualization of her divine form continuously merging with and re-emerging from the natural and spiritual realms.

Biologized, individualized, not set in stone, not in the stars, just the scientific beginning that is your end.

There is no reasoning with destruction as reasoning is its weapon. A loop that keeps you from simply feeling. A loop that keeps you under the illusion that reasoning is productive, that productivity is necessary. A loop that is not endless as time is supposedly linear.

In linear time and materiality there is an end to destruction. But destruction has no end. It will not stop by itself. Destruction knows it cannot truly destroy so it has to be so cruel, so vile, so grotesque, to make it seem that there is no beyond. To make it seem it is the end.🧭

Very BON SIMAN INDEED! 💸

Today, I received the news that Fonds Voor West @fondsvoorwest is supporting my work with a €1000 contribution. Yay! This brings me much closer to fully realizing the Survivors Circle and my upcoming (first ever!!!) exhibition “The Gift of Remembrance/My Story of Resurrection After R a p e.”, in which I share very intimate and sacred insights into my journey of reconnection and retrieving my spirit, as an Indigenous person and survivor of r a p e. Among other works, you will find video recordings of me at key points in my process, my broken paper form laying on the ground, an altar for reflection and as a way of interaction, and at the back of the space a visualization of my divine form, continuously merging with and re-emerging from the natural and spiritual world. 🌀
