Rawhide by The Blues Brothers
Originally recorded by Frankie Laine in 1958 as the theme to the TV Western starring a young Clint Eastwood. But I first heard it in The Blues Brothers and will always associate it with that film. That scene in Bob's Country Bunker, with the band playing behind chicken wire to avoid the flying beer bottles, is an absolute classic! Another version you might want to check out, if you haven't heard it, is the Dead Kennedys' 1981 punk cover.
If you play this using barre chords, the second section is exactly the same as the first, just one fret higher. Couldn't be much simpler!

Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show
Fun fact: “Wagon Wheel” started with an unfinished Bob Dylan song from the ’70s. Some 25 years later, Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor added the verses and turned it into the song we know today. Dylan and Secor share the writing credit — a song 25 years in the making!
This is my take on it.

Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley
I forgot to play this in 3/4… doh! And as for the guitar, it looks like someone put it through a hot wash. It wasn’t me - just saying!
Elvis recorded the song in 1961 for Blue Hawaii. The melody traces back to an 18th-century French love song, “Plaisir d’amour.”
Anyway… this is my 4/4, shrunk-guitar version.

Teardrop by Massive Attack and Elisabeth Fraser.
What a tune! “Teardrop” by Massive Attack, with the incomparable Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins. Andrew “Mushroom” Vowles originally wanted Madonna to sing it, and she was interested in doing so. Madonna’s great, but I honestly can’t imagine this song without Elizabeth.

Bring me sunshine by Morecambe and Wise.
We laughed a lot making this. We dare you not to giggle at least a little bit and hope Eric and Ernie would approve!
Written by Arthur Kent and Silvia Dee, this tune will forever be associated with the wonderful Morecambe and Wise.

Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
Having a great holiday with Kathy Specific, my lovely wife. Thought I was going to have to miss my fortnightly post being so far away from the home studio. Turns out a phone is enough. Cheers Katy! X

Get Funky by AI&I
AI&I is a new MAMWAG project (this time, Middle Aged Man WITHOUT a Guitar). It explores the space between human creativity and artificial intelligence, with AI as a creative collaborator rather than a replacement. Get Funky is the first release. If it earns a smile or gets your foot tapping, I'll be happy. Or perhaps you disagree with the whole idea—that's fine too. I'd love to hear your thoughts. x

Open Book by Andy Lester
This was written many years ago by my great friend Andy Lester, whose songwriting I've always admired. Thanks for letting me record and share my version, dude!
There's a famous philosophical idea woven into the lyrics. Can you work out what it is?
No Googling... and if you know the answer, try not to give it away too quickly. I'd love to hear your theories in the comments.

Across the Universe by The Beatles
My first post using Nashville tuning (also known as high-strung tuning), a recommendation from André Lestafari, who also gave me this guitar a quarter of a century ago. Cheers Lestles!
If you haven't tried it, do. You play the same chords, use the same fingerings, and don't have to learn anything new, but the guitar takes on a completely different character. Familiar, yet somehow lighter, brighter, and more spacious.
For this recording, I've tuned it a semitone down to match the original.

Pretty Close by Mamwag
Please try to stay with this one until the end ;)
My new song, "Pretty Close", actually isn't that close at all.
The Guinness World Record holder for the shortest song ever recorded is "You Suffer" by Napalm Death.
At 1.316 seconds, it's over 12 seconds shorter than "Pretty Close".
So close... yet not really.
Radio edit out soon.

I'd rather go blind by Etta James
A two chord wonder! Etta James heard this song outlined by her friend Ellington "Fugi" Jordan when she visited him in prison. She then wrote the rest of the song with Jordan and released it in 1967. x

The Wild Rover - A traditional folk song
An old traditional folk song dating back at least to the 17th century, “The Wild Rover” became part of Irish folk history before being made famous by The Dubliners and later given extra fire by The Pogues. Few choruses were made to be shouted louder in good company down the pub! I hope you enjoy my version x
