Your work is changing the world. 🌎
But does the world know about it?

Movement leaders shouldn’t have to be their own communications director.

Mancala Collective helps make your work visible, clear, and powerful, from messaging and social media to media pitching and communications strategy.

You run the mission. We make sure the world knows about it.

Jason Arday, the youngest Black Professor in the University of Cambridge’s history, died amidst a racist smear campaign accusing him of plagiarism. The claims were dismissed, but the media fueled the narrative anyway, leading to his demise.

This is not an isolated incident. Within our Black scholarly community, we are witnessing an uptick in baseless attacks on Black academics by white supremacist actors. When Black academics committed to research and scholarship aimed at bursting open the seams of racist systems find themselves under media pressure, the institutions they serve (the same ones who demand so much of them) often go silent, leaving them without the cover and protection they need.

It’s similar to the attacks we see on our movements, where challenges that carry no social, ethical, or legal weight, wage PR campaigns that swarm our leaders and communities with noise they simply can’t combat.

At Mancala Collective, we envision a world where Black scholars and movements are protected and their voices are heard.

Justice for Jason Arday.

GRWM as I headed to celebrate one of my clients on one of the biggest days of her life. 🤍

Building Mancala Collective has never been just about communications—it’s about relationships. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with scholars, movement leaders, nonprofits, and organizations whose work is changing communities. Somewhere along the way, many of those clients became friends.

Attending this wedding reminded me why I started this work in the first place: to build a communications firm that understands the heart behind mission-driven work and walks alongside the people leading it.

I’m incredibly grateful for every story we’ve been trusted to tell—and for moments like these that remind me this work is about so much more than campaigns.

Congratulations to a truly brilliant and deserving couple. 💛

20 years of FIERCE. 🔥

We partnered with FIERCE Advocates to build a communications campaign worthy of two decades of advocacy and organizing for LGBTQ+ youth of color.

Testimonial series. Campaign visuals. Media outreach. And a segment on ABC Bay Area to cap it off.

This is what community storytelling looks like in action.

I’m ready for my close-up. 🎬
At Mancala Collective, we work with leaders at movement organizations and research institutions and we keep seeing the same pattern.

You’ve got a bold vision. You’re under-resourced and stretched thin. You don’t have time to be the executive director AND manage communications. So you hire a consultant.

And before long? Even THAT starts to feel like one more thing to manage. You’re still coming up with every content idea. Still driving the strategy. Your consultant is just hitting send or building a pie-in-the-sky strategy and expecting you to execute.

WE SEE YOU.

That’s exactly why Mancala Collective exists. We add real capacity to your communications infrastructure so it’s one less thing on your plate, and you still feel proud of what the world sees.

You and your mission deserve better. DM us if this sounds like you. We’re always here to talk. 📩

Our client, Professor Justin Hansford, joined Democracy Now! to share his perspective as our nation marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

When political historian Deondra Rose, Ph.D. was ready to bring her book — The Power of Black Excellence: HBCUs and the Fight for American Democracy — to broader audiences, she needed a communications strategy that matched the depth of her research. 📚✊🏾
We partnered with Dr. Rose to take her scholarship from the academy to the public — through a multi-city book tour, media outreach, and a website redesign that matched the depth of her work.

Happy Juneteenth community! Today we’re celebrating the bold leaders, thinkers, and creators that are a part of the village we call home.

For the past three years, we’ve brought together a strong collective of creatives and strategists who believe storytelling can shift the balance of power. The collective has supported campaigns and built capacity for organizations defending civil rights, organizing marginalized communities, and producing knowledge that makes movements stronger.

The work is growing and so are we! Interested in joining our network of consultants? Know someone who brings excellence to their craft and a commitment to supporting movements?

We’re looking for:

Graphic Design 🎨
Writing & Messaging ✍🏿
Social Media 📱
Comms Strategy 🧩
Web Design 💻️
Public Relations 📰

If that’s you, let’s talk!

Mancala Collective’s “Celebration of Black Voices” launch event and fireside chat was a celebration of not only Mancala Collective, but the importance of the Black Press and Black storytellers, like our Founder, Misha Cornelius Green and Washington Informer Managing Editor, Micha Green. This event highlighted why our work is so important.

When discussing the reasons for creating Mancala Collective, Misha said, “Communications is something that is really needed and yet deeply underresourced. There’s not a lot of Black representation… and I really wanted a different model.” Thus, Mancala Collective is grateful to do our part to ensure our clients receive culturally relevant communications strategies that ensure Black voices are heard and authentically expressed.
