What’s good ManDem CC 👊🏾

In 2020, I met up with 7 of my friends for a bike ride. That random morning in Scarborough planted the seed for the community we have now. Over the last 5 summers , while my original crew retired their bikes one by one as the world returned to normal, I kept this thing alive.

I truly enjoy riding my bike.

I also enjoy people. Getting to know hundreds of new faces and watching their eyes light up when I remember their name means a lot to me. It’s an immediate confirmation that the effort I put in to build this community wasn’t for nothing. 99% of the people that come out to MDCC are people I met in 2020 or later. To me, that is a beautiful thing.

You all see the good but you don’t see the bad. The racist messages I’ve received. The people making allegations against with no substance to back it up. The people who talk shit online and send subliminals but then come to a ride , smile in my face and call me “brother”. The people who have stolen from me. These are all Ls I took on the chin with a smile because in the grand scheme of things, ManDem CC was winning. We’ve raised money for kids in need. We got a handful black women on bikes. We’ve supported local business. I can go on.

I say all that to say this. I’m taking a break. Will it return this summer or next, I don’t know. But until then , RYBWYF.

The Sounds of ManDem CC

Nice cool breeze, hubs buzzing, friends catching up, communicating potential hazards and don’t forget the laughter and shit talkin’!!! We really do this every weekend for 5 summers strong. Shoutout the newcomers who finally pulled and got to witness what we’re all about - especially the youngbloods who traveled all the way from Yonge and Finch to ride bikes with us. Much appreciated 👊🏾

If the weather cooperates, next weekend is potentiall 60+ KM round trip. New spot we’ve never been to on a familiar route. Let’s see how the week unfolds 👊🏾 taken in Etobicoke, Toronto by @mandemcc

Good Morning ManDem CC 👊🏾

Last week, Scarborough. This week, Mississauga!

I must admit, it’s been fun to watch us expand and cover more and more ground each year. From being limited to the waterfront trail and road closures to really putting our hard work to the test and checking out some destinations that at one point , seemed so out of reach.

Thank you again to @leelasroti for the hospitality 👊🏾

S5E6 was a success. New destination off of our usual beaten path might become a staple going forward. Big chunk of newbies in the squad today as well - so thank you for pulling up.

Multiple flats and even a mechanical issue wasnt enough to kill our vibe. Thank you to @leelasroti for slingin’ those rotis and doubles to us so efficiently 👊🏾 we will be back for sure!

Next weekend is a long weekend. I’m sure we all have some plans locked in by now. Let’s see how the weather unfolds and maybe we can link for a casual mission 👊🏾 taken in Leela's Roti & Doubles by @mandemcc

Good Morning ManDem CC 👊🏾

This is my 5th consecutive year immersed in this bike life. I wouldnt refer to myself as an expert but I wouldn’t call myself a beginner either. I often refer to myself as an “Expert Beginner”. I know enough about getting started into this beautiful thing of ours but I still have a long LONG way to go before I reach expert. An enthusiast though? Most definitely.

What’s good ManDem CC 👊🏾

On Sunday morning, my friends and I are making a move out to Mississauga for Roti and Doubles from my favourite spot. This will be my first time riding there and you’re more than welcome to pull up and roll with us.

Date : Sunday July 28th
Departure : 1030AM
Link Up : Etobicoke CI, 86 Montgomery Road
Destination : @leelasroti , 900 Rathburn Road West
Distance : 23 KMs scenic route (voted by the people)

There will be more Scarborough / Durham based missions before the year is out. Scarborough to Stouffville is going down again for sure and then there was some talks about the waterfront trail@east of Pickering. TBD.

Good Morning ManDem CC

It’s no secret that I get a flat tire or two every season. This is my 2nd one this year. Luckily for me, I was with some friends and we were able to join forces to get it done. I had the spare tube and the tool, Snacks had the sticks and by the grace of the Bike Gods Kat had the digital pump. Before you know it I was back on road.

A couple lessons from Saturday Morning :

1. Be prepared!

I was partially equipped with everything I needed. If I wasn’t with resourceful friends I wouldn’t have been back in the game so quickly - especially considering where we were when it happened. Tools, Spare Tube, Levers and a pump / co2 are mandatory - otherwise, you’re rollin’ the dice.

2. Everything Happens for a Reason!

Despite the inconvenience of the flat, it gave us some quality time. We got to relive some memories, chat and catch up during the repair. If this was 2020 I woulda called an Uber and called it quits lol

Our ride yesterday from Scarborough to Pickering was about 40KMs round trip. However, since I was riding from to Scarborough from Etobicoke, I put out an open invite for anyone to join me in the city for some extra distance.

This used to only be a handful of people. Yesterday, there was 12 of us making the trip. As much as ManDemCC started off for beginners, it’s been dope to see people build the confidence for longer trips (including myself).

About 50 strong yesterday in Scarborough for S5E5. Aside from being back home in the east, the best part of this ride was the number of people who have never experienced Scarborough by bike before and got to take it all in for the first time. Shoutout the newcomers for keeping the streak alive 👊🏾

Thank you to @bigmdrivein for the hospitality and letting us take over your patio for a few hours 👊🏾

If you missed out, we are planning at least 2 more missions in the East before summer is done.
