Hey, I’m Mandie! Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. I discovered roller skating in 2021, and I’ve been hooked ever since! As a PhD student, my life was all about lab work and data analysis, but skating introduced me to a whole new world—one full of creativity, travel, performance and community. It’s the perfect balance, letting me chase my career in science while fueling my soul with dance skating.

Teaching has always been a passion of mine, whether it’s guiding someone through a lab experiment or showing a new skater how to own the rink! Last year, I had the joy of assisting with beginner rollerdance classes at House of Skate (Calgary’s first rink since 2017), and now I’m thrilled to offer my own intermediate/advanced class starting in 2025.

I’m all about making, learning fun, relatable, and accessible—something I wish I had when I was starting out. Embrace the journey, and let’s make roller skating the happiest part of your week! Can’t wait to skate with you!

Was too busy to post on my Skateaversary (April 10) but fun to take a look back at my progress. Sometimes the progress seems slow but I’m excited to see where I’ll be in another 5 years. by @mandie.skates

Feels so nice to finally be done my PhD and have the mental space to think about what I want my life to look like moving forward! Definitely more skating, dancing, and general shenanigans!

I also want to make sure that I have regular activities planned to look forward to, ie. craft nights, date nights, skate meetups. What are your goals for 2026? How are they going so far??
