MEET BLOSSOM’S FAMILY 🌻

Every story has a world around it.

Blossom’s world begins with family.

Before we meet the challenges she encounters, I want you to meet some of the people who help shape the girl she becomes.

Her family is part of the foundation of her story certainly the place where love, identity, confidence and the courage to be yourself begin.

These are some of the faces behind Blossom’s world and perhaps, as you meet them, you’ll begin to understand a little more about the girl who loves her skin and celebrates others 🌻

There is still so much of Blossom’s story waiting to be discovered.

#BlossomTheBook #GratefulLifeAlways🌻 #Children’sBook #SelfLove #Colourism by @mandisamcelu_21

WHAT IS COLOURISM?

Colourism is different kind of bullying.

Colourism is prejudice or discrimination based on skin tone. It can happen within the same racial or cultural community and across communities where lighter skin may be treated as more beautiful, desirable or worthy than darker skin.

It is not only a South African issue. We see different forms of colourism in communities around the world including Black, Coloured and Indian communities in South Africa, as well as communities across Africa, India, Latin America and beyond.

Even the language we use can carry these ideas. Terms such as “yellow bone” can reinforce the belief that lighter skin is somehow more desirable.

Colourism can reach children long before they have the words to describe it.

By the teenage years, some young people are already questioning their natural skin tone and considering skin lightening because of the messages they have absorbed about beauty and acceptance.

This is one of the reasons Blossom opens this conversation.

Because what children hear, see and learn about themselves can stay with them long into adulthood.

But this conversation is not only for children.

It is for parents.
For families.
For teachers.
For communities.
And for all of us who are willing to learn, unlearn and speak about what we may once have been afraid to name.

I was fortunate to grow up in a home where I was affirmed in all the ways of my uniqueness and beauty both inside out. That affirmation taught me something I carry with me today:

Sometimes you can champion something that never wounded you because you recognise that it wounded someone else.

Blossom is my invitation to begin that conversation with love, with honesty and with the hope that every child learns to see their skin as something to celebrate and never something they need to apologise for!

🌻 Let’s talk about it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SISTER NOKWANDA ❤️

Growing up with brothers all I ever wanted was a sister. I remember pestering my parents who insisted that they were done as they now have one girl 😂 But I kept asking and seven years after me you were born sweetheart 💕

Little did I know that your birth would become one of the greatest testimonies of my faith in Yahweh. You remind me that God hears us, even when we are little and that we can come before Yeshua boldly with the specific desires of our hearts and in His perfect timing He blesses us with the desires of our hearts according to His Word and principles.

My darling sister, my best friend and my prayer partner what a wholesome woman you are, warm cousin, incredible Dadobawo, a thoughtful to all your friends, a loving wife, a beautiful mother, lovely sister-in-love and above all, a daughter of Yeshua. Your wisdom, dignity and maturity have been evident from such a young age. You have always carried yourself with such grace and confidence.

Oh, how I wish uTata noMama were here to witness this day and see the beautiful woman their last born (uthunjana wabo) has become. I wish they could see how well you are doing and the wonderful future that lies ahead of you ❤️🥹🌻

Today, my heart is full of gratitude. When I look at you, I remember the little girl I once was, the prayer I carried in my heart and the God who answered me.

You are not just my sister. You are my living reminder that Yahweh hears and answers prayer.

May Yeshua continue to cover you, your marriage, your children and every step of your journey. May your life continue to flourish in His grace, wisdom and purpose.

Happy birthday my wonderful Kwandoza 💕. I love you dearly.

Thank You Yeshua for the gift of my sister. Thank You for hearing the prayer of a little girl and allowing me to witness its beautiful answer all these years later. Enkosi for uNokwanda.

A heart full of gratitude, a life anchored in faith and a soul that trusts in Yahweh 🙏🏾

Psalm 37:3–8 | Psalm 37:25–26 (NIV)

“Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.” Psalm 37:3

“I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing.” Psalm 37:25–26

Through every season, Yahweh has remained faithful. I have every reason to be grateful Bawo ❤️

In the name of Yeshua my Saviour and LORD-Amen 🙌🏾 Yehova Ndiyabulela #HomeInYOU by @mandisamcelu_21

Spent my entire childhood surviving, a big portion of my adulthood being an organised mess and now I am safely kept #Yeshua ndiyabulela ngokundigcina ngendlela yakho Bawo Yehova and everything else is a bonus. I am YOURS, my joy 🥹, my fun 💃🏾, my indescribable peace and heart posture to YOUR glory #MyGratefulLifeAlways🌻🙌🏾 YOUR word is active and alive. YOUR fierce protection is unmatched El Roi 😌 enkosi.

The Word of Yahweh is alive and sharper than a double-edged sword
Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

No weapon or tongue raised against you will prevail
Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

You created me like a tree planted by streams of water…🌻
Psalm 1:1–3 (KJV)
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” by @mandisamcelu_21

Thank You Sunday 🙌🏾

Today I’m not asking Yahweh for anything.

I know there is so much I could ask for but today my heart is simply full of gratitude.

Thank You for waking me up. For a slow and cozy Sunday. For being able to rest when I need to without guilt or feeling that I have to earn it.

Thank You for the Holy Spirit and the way He continues to change the way I see life, rest and myself.

Thank You for the little things too with my loctitian coming through and giving my locs some love just when I’m ready for them to be twisted 😂

I am grateful for the life I have and for the life Yahweh has for me.

Thanksgiving doesn’t always have to be a big event. Sometimes it is simply waking up and recognising that your heart is full.

Today, I don’t want to ask for anything.
I just want to say thank You.

Ndiyabulela Bawo, Yehova wam #MyGratefulLifeAlways🌻
This is my Thanksgiving Sunday 🙏🏾
