As a photographer based in the Pacific Northwest, I thought I already knew how much I loved the forest. But photographing Helen & Wenqi’s wedding among the California redwoods somehow made me fall in love with it all over again. 🌲

From the letter Helen wrote to her parents that morning, to exchanging vows deep in the redwoods, to drinking, laughing, and dancing under the trees at night, every part of this day felt so close to nature and so full of love. Looking through my camera, I kept thinking about how beautiful it was to celebrate something so personal in a place so wild and alive. 🧚🏻

Maybe that is why we love nature so much. It reminds us that the most beautiful things take time to grow. Helen & Wenqi, I hope your marriage grows like these redwoods, with deeper roots through every season, always reaching for the light, and growing stronger together year after year. 🏔️🌲💛

Not every bride wants the full white dress moment.
She came to her Santa Clara courthouse appointment in black + blush pink and told me she wanted to look "light enough that I still feel like myself." Not transformed. Not a magazine version of a bride. Just her, turned up.
So I kept her base sheer (no heavy coverage), warmed her cheeks with a peachy blush, went with a creamy nude-coral lip, and left her hair down with the bangs she already loves.
Something I've been noticing lately — Bay Area brides keep asking for less, not more. Less foundation. Less updo. Less of the "wedding magazine bride" template. The shift is small but it changes everything in my chair: from transformation to amplification.
Courthouse days deserve the same intention as a full bridal day. Sometimes that just means doing less.

NorCal sun, a hidden little chapel, a waterfall, and a whole lot of love. ☀️🌲 It’s still wild to think how a boy from Taiwan and a girl from Northeast China (东北Dongbei) ended up getting married in the middle of the California springs. Their families are from completely opposite ends of the map, but listening to the mix of soft Taiwanese accents and loud, warm Dongbei chatter all night was everything. Two totally different worlds just melted into one big, beautiful, chaotic family. Cheers to @helenshiqiu and @derekrtz. 🥂👧🏻👦🏻
