The Independence Files happened because a room full of strangers showed up ready to actually dig into something together — and that’s exactly what you did. Watching people turn thirty envelopes into one whole story, table by table, chapter by chapter, is something we won’t forget in a hurry.

To everyone who came, who claimed a file, who argued over a cue, who moved seats when it was time to move — this was built for you, and you made it work.

This is only the first edition. See you at the next one.

Due to popular demand — and to make this more accessible — we’re introducing a second ticket option for The Independence Files.

We went back and forth on this one. Our original ticket included a drink and a light bite for everyone, because we didn’t want people spending hours with us and going hungry. We also avoided creating tiers in the first place, mostly because we didn’t want to introduce classism into something meant to bring people together.

But we’d rather open the door wider than hold onto that stance too rigidly. Affordability shouldn’t be the reason someone who genuinely wants to be here can’t come.

So alongside our original ticket, we’re now offering a Standard option — same experience, same seat at the table, just without the drink and snack included. Our on-site marketplace will have plenty to grab if you want something while you’re with us.

Same room. Same story. Just more ways in.

On October 1st, 1960, Nigeria became her own. Since then, that story has been shrunk down to a flag, a holiday, and one line in a textbook — when really, it’s one of the richest, most dramatic chapters in our history.

The Independence Files is an experience built around filling in that gap.

We invite you to join us for an immersive investigation into the Nigeria that led up to independence — the movements, the arguments, the people, the moments that shaped a nation — pieced together by you and your team, guided by a live storyteller, over recreated historical documents built just for the day.

This is history the way it should feel: alive, communal, and unmistakably ours.
