“Fax” 2026
-
Oil on linen, 128 x 160 cm

I pay attention to the secondary things and the unnoticed details, the moments in life that are unexplained, overlooked or easily passed by.

While researching this project, I came across a childhood drawing sprawled across the back of a father’s fax printout. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, this spontaneous drawing of flowers sitting alongside this early piece of technology.

It got me thinking about how our relationship with nature is changing, and how technology has slowly become part of even the most ordinary parts of life.

The smell of a plant, the texture of its leaves, the feeling of being surrounded by something growing. These simple, sensory moments can feel strangely distant now.

Meet Victor Manzanal, an artist whose practice reveals the unseen rhythms that weave all living systems together. In Interflow, fluid forms dissolve the boundaries between matter, movement, and life, evoking the continuous exchange that sustains our natural world. The work reminds us that every living system is part of a greater flow, one that we, too, belong to

Over the past few months, I’ve been working on this commissioned piece for the @mangrovesfoundation collection. Through it, I’ve sought to explore themes of biodiversity, interdependence, shared fragility, and the boundaries between the artificial and the natural.
