I take a variety of medications everyday to manage my mental health. Some I take only when I need it, but most I need to take everyday in order to stay balanced. Medication is not for everyone because every person is unique - but for me, it was life changing. I’ll never forget the first day I went on the anti-depressants that I’m still on today. I couldn’t believe that people could just feel this *okay* all the time. I marveled at being able to look out at the lake and not imagine drifting off into oblivion. For once, the lake was just a lake, and I cried happy tears. I often wonder what would have happened if I had access to these medications when I was younger. I had had gone to therapy but avoided medication due to the stigma. So that’s one of the reasons why I make pill jewelry and artwork now. I’m proud to have found something that helps me live my life, and I want others to know that help is possible for them too. There isn’t a taboo for folks who take blood pressure or cholesterol meds, so why should there be one for mental health. It’s okay to not be okay. Recent works in progress from my first solo lost wax casting art @prattfinearts and Session 3 casting class @pilchuckglassschool 1/2: Kinetic Thumb Windmill - intuitively build lost wax casting sculpture exploring kinetic movement in cast glass. Made with @gafferglassusa crystal 3/4: Mr. Egg, part of a morbid take on “Let’s all go to the movies” but breakfast themed - also gaffer crystal. Broke off one of the legs on accident but it was honestly meant to be. 5/6: Brain chair - started as a brain bowl but I forgot to add air vents so a brain chair was born. Killer process of “slug casting” using refractory mold making and the hot shop. Cast in a mix of furnace glass and recycled spectrum pink scraps. 7/8/9: Don’t Fight with Your Sister: Part 2 - made the wax in 2024 when I cast a hollow version in crystal. Decided to make a solid one. made the wax into a mold. The mold cracked. Added a pattern on the bottom. It also cracked. However, I learned I’m a bit better at coldworking that I realized so she is cleaning up nicely. Planning to polish the fingernail but not sure about the bottom. First step is removing everything that’s cracked so we’ll see what’s left I guess. Cast in solid @bullseyeglass (with all 90 coe in the pattern so I cannot figure out why it cracked.) by @manicpixie.dreamsquirrel
