Founded by @maartje_fliervoet, Manifold Books explores connections between contemporary art and books. Kraijenhoffstraat 34, A'dam. Open Fri-Sat 1-5pm
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
this week, we will be back in the attic and we would like to invite you to the final event in this year’s 12:15 Reading Room programme on 17 October from 5 pm

Maartje Fliervoet, a visual artist and the initiator of Manifold Books (@manifoldbooks), will be visiting us to share with us about her project, which has existed since 2015 and explores the relationship between art and books. It transforms her artist studio into a space for communal exchange, functioning as both a workspace and an exhibition venue.

We hope you can find time to share this time with us and Maartje Fleirvoet.

Manifold Books offers artists at various stages of their careers the opportunity to display their work in the intimate setting of a studio context, providing an alternative to the extensive commercialization of space in Amsterdam. There is always a personal encounter and a dialogue with the public within the environment of a workspace, with its functional-private character. For each exhibition, exhibitors create special book interventions using existing publications, offering insight into their work. Since 2021 Manifold Books has organised several public events programmes. For example, in 2024 Utrecht-based curator and death doula Staci Bu Shea has hosted collective reading sessions running parallel to each exhibition. Manifold Books’ experimental character lies in a deeply personal approach manifesting itself in all three activities—exhibitions, book collection, and public program. As such, this initiative distinguishes itself from similar art initiatives: it is both polyphonic and manifold.

we would like to thank the Graphic Art Department at the Vilnius Academy of Arts for their help with this event

the program of events for “12:15 Reading Room” is partially funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Mondriaan Fund

T O N I G H T:
Telephone Telephone +31
09/10/’26, 6-8pm
with Melissa Gordon
and Riet Wijnen

language: English
TO JOIN, PLEASE RSVP
VIA info@manifoldbooks.nl
tickets available at the door: €5,-

After the summer break, we continue with Telephone Telephone +31, a series of meetings on the future (of) artists’ legacies organised by Manifold Books in collaboration with Darling Green and curator Alicja Melzacka. Three more meetings will be organised in October, November, and December. The programme addresses practical, creative, and ethical questions surrounding artists’ legacies from a range of perspectives, including those of curators, archivists, legal advisors, and artists themselves.

On 9 October, we welcome Melissa Gordon and Riet Wijnen—both working as artists, editors and organisers. Within their practice, they approach questions of archiving and legacy-making through the inclusion of other artists’ works and documents in their own presentations; research into art histories, especially of abstraction; and self-publishing and feminist organising. A short talk by each artist, outlining their practice, will be followed by an open conversation with the public. Upon reservation, a concise and optional reader with related texts selected by our guests will be shared with subscribers to the event, providing additional context for our conversation. Selected publications by Melissa Gordon and Riet Wijnen will also be available to browse during the event.

Telephone Telephone is a regular meeting organised by the NYC-based curatorial office Darling Green to discuss the meaning, uses and methodology of the exhibition form. Part seminar, part reading group and part gathering of co-conspirators, Telephone Telephone is a self-organising experiment in dialogue and cooperative discovery.

NB: The fifth Telephone Telephone +31 meeting with guests JJJJJerome Ellis and Will Holder will take place on Novemer 25, from 6pm to 8pm. The date and guests for the final meeting in December 2026 will be communicated soon

For the @singaporeartbookfair , Manifold Books and Good Neighbour are launching our newest publication, 𝘽𝙚 𝙈𝙮 𝙂𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩 by Arefeh Riahi.

🔲

This Saturday, Maartje Fliervoet of @manifoldbooks will be a speaker on radio radio radio, a live radio programme presented as part of Singapore Art Book Fair 2026. She will introduce the publication and discuss the process behind making it.

𝘽𝙚 𝙈𝙮 𝙂𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩 is a project by Arefeh Riahi, conceived as a tripartite sound piece in English, presented at Manifold Books in Amsterdam between March and July 2026. The publication collects the transcript of these three letters, originally written in Farsi by the artist, in which she takes Manifold Books’ founder, Maartje Fliervoet, on a fictive walk. Initially, she intended this journey to be a phantom ride through Tehran, her hometown. However, the writings unfolded differently, casting light on the struggle of sharing across cultural boundaries. The work explores the relation between the migrant and the so-called host, complicated by the factor of time. 𝘽𝙚 𝙈𝙮 𝙂𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩 includes English and Farsi translations and is accompanied by a visual contribution by @maartje_fliervoet titled From Us to us.
The book was designed by @dongyoungleee and printed and bound by @nokiss___ in Amsterdam, August 2026.

Good Neighbour Books and Manifold Books are happy to be partnering up once again and participating in the @singaporeartbookfair this year.

We will be presenting our most recent collaborations, publications, and books with artistic interventions from 28 to 30 August, every day from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This year, the fair takes place at T:>Works, 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road, Singapore.

For this year’s fair catalogue, we were invited to create a design using page 37 of Goldilocks. This will be available during the fair, together with the other pages designed by the participating publishers. We decided to pair the page 37 template with a foldable reading list designed by Jomel Yong for The Sphinx’s Riddle, Manifold Books’ year-long programme of exhibitions and reading events around grief and transformation.

For this post, we wanted to extend that gesture by sharing the same backdrop to present to you a selection of collaborations between Good Neighbour Books and Manifold Books from the last few years.

1. Reading List Foldable, 2025. Marking the end of The Sphinx’s Riddle, a year-long exhibition and reading-events programme around grief and transformation at Manifold Books. Design and concept by Jomel Yong.

2. Be My Ghost, Arefeh Riahi, 2026. Design by Dongyoung Lee.

3. The Minga of the Birds of the Dawn, Daniel Godínez Nivón, 2023. Text by Andrés González. Design by Dongyoung Lee.

4. The Mountain, The Mountain, Moosje Moti Goosen, 2025. Design by Dongyoung Lee.

5. Correspondances, Maartje Fliervoet, 2021. Design by Our Polite Society.

6. Portrait of a Good Neighbour’s Library, various authors, 2025, including Maartje Fliervoet. Design by Dongyoung Lee.

This presentation is made possible with the support of the @mondriaanfonds The collaborative publications have also been made with support of the @afk020

Please join us for:
Telephone Telephone +31
19/07/2026, 3-5pm
with Andrew Walsh-Lister
and Philipp Gufler

language: English
to join, please RSVP
via info@manifoldbooks.nl

tickets available at the door: €5,-

Telephone Telephone +31 is a series of five meetings on the future (of) artists’ legacies organised by Manifold Books in collaboration with Darling Green and curator Alicja Melzacka. The programme addresses practical, creative, and ethical questions surrounding artists’ legacies from a range of perspectives, including those of curators, archivists, legal advisors, and artists themselves.

Our guests will be Andrew Walsh-Lister, typographer, writer, and curator based between the UK and the US and a member of the Lily Greenham Advisory Group, and Philipp Gufler, an artist based in Amsterdam and Munich and a founding member of the Paul Hoecker Research Group. They will talk about how their artistic and curatorial practices enter into a dialogue with other artists’ legacies—in particular Lily Greenham (1924-2001), an Austrian-born Danish visual artist, performer, composer and leading proponent of sound poetry and concrete poetry, Paul Hoecker (1854-1910), a founding member of the Munich Secession plus the artist Cosy Pièro (1937-2023), who ran the legendary artist bar Bei Cosy (1962-1982). We will reflect on the importance of intergenerational transmission, peer and community networks, and artistic and curatorial research in dealing with artists’ legacies.
