For anyone currently in their “I want to read but somehow can’t read” era… this one’s for you. 🤭🙂‍↕️

Reading slumps are frustrating, but they’re usually trying to tell us something. Here are a few things I’ve learned from mine.

hi friends, I’m Amani 💌🫧

welcome to my bookstagram! I started this account because I was posting about books on my main way too much and figured it was time to give all that energy its own corner of the internet!

I’m currently on my 59th book and am always chasing stories that make me feel something. I love romantasy, romance, slow burns that hurt a little, second chances, and tear jerkers that make me contemplate life.

Outside of reading, I’m a big One Direction girl, permanently fueled by iced coffee, obsessed with Marvel movies and characters, and I love Legos✨ so if you see any of that mixed into my book content… no you didn’t…

I’ll mostly be posting my honest thoughts, random reactions, and whatever book has me in a chokehold that week. I’m trying to be better about taking recommendations, so if something emotionally wrecked you, I want to know.

the vibes I bring to the function are soft, cozy, and emotionally attached to fictional people!♥️

y’all firstly I only listened to August Alsina when reading this LMAO

Spicy, entertaining, troubling… like we went through a whirlwind of emotions here! I’m not going to lie, I am not the biggest fan of Damien/Demon. I hated how misogynistic he could be because a lot of his commentary was unnecessary. Like, sir, you really could’ve kept that to yourself. 😭 Honestly, I liked Smoke/Cartier a little more, and I have the biggest soft spot for Lucian.

Nobody irritated me more than Darius and DeAngelo, though. They were both severely insufferable and insecure. I feel like in the last 250 pages, it got maddd crazy. We went from kidnapping to drugging people, to another kidnapping, murder, and then more murder. Which I was a fan of, of course LOL.

There was one thing that didn’t sit right with me, though, and without spoiling it, it would definitely take me a lot longer to forgive my sister if she betrayed my trust like Dayana did. I understand having your own beliefs and thoughts, but that doesn’t give you the right to impede on mine.

So many people died, but honestly, they truly needed to. Jordan was also high on my list of people I couldn’t stand. I basically finished this in one sitting because I really didn’t know where things were going to turn. I had a good time though 😛

ooo y’all🤭🤭

Heyyy urban romance! 🤎 I really enjoyed this one. Firstly, I loved their names. Lovie & Rich?? Fabulous. 😂 What I didn’t love was Uncle Kenny because you’re just working my nerves fr.

As much as he irritated me, I did feel like he represented that stereotypical Black community mindset of “if he’s paying for you, you just have to deal with the bullshit.” I’m glad Lovie broke that cycle, especially considering the traumatic background she came from. Rich was an interesting character to me, too, because he genuinely believed he was unlovable when, in reality, he needed to break out of the vicious cycle he was raised in.

I also liked the little age gap romance happening here (she’s 24 and he’s 30), and there were definitely moments when you could tell they were in different stages of life. I really loved how Rich could command a room, or really any space he walked into, and just based on how that man could TALK??? LOVED IT. 😮‍💨

I’m kinda mad at Auntie Faye because SHE KNEW. After everything that happened, she knew, and I’m upset she didn’t try harder to put a stop to things before they got as bad as they did. I understand she wasn’t trying to push, but GIRL. 😭

Lovie is such a strong woman, and I really liked how, once she realized she was in love, she allowed herself to lean into it. Their love story is messy and raw, but it’s also real and beautiful. And if you’re looking for spice, you’re definitely in the right place too LOL! 🌶️

If you tell me a book has dark academia, a missing sister, secret societies, and a high-tension slow-burn, I will make it my entire personality. 😭 I was completely hooked from page one 😛

WOW WOW WOW. Immediate favorite for me.

This may be up there on my favorites list. I’m irritated that it took me so long to read this, but man, am I glad I did. This was such a beautiful story about love, loss, grief, and mental illness that had me crying, blushing, giggling, and then completely breaking my heart.

I especially loved the representation of bipolar disorder. I don’t think I’ve ever read a fictional character with bipolar disorder before. I’ve mostly encountered it through textbooks and from knowing people who manage it in real life, so seeing it portrayed in a fictional story felt really meaningful to me. I loved how this story allowed Verity’s experience to be a real part of her character without making it her entire identity. It felt honest, emotional, and human, and I really appreciated how much care was put into writing it.

I loved every second of this, even when my heart dropped and I was crying because I just wanted Verity to not be in such a bad space anymore. Monk was getting on my nerves BAD, but I also had to remind myself that he didn’t know everything he needed to know and was acting based on what he could see in front of him.

I’m soooo glad I finally read this, and I’m genuinely proud of how this story was written. It was emotional, beautiful, and absolutely worth the wait.
