As Yom Kippur approaches, I find myself thinking about what this day asks of me: to look deeply within at how I am using my life, my voice and my agency.

I share this reflection from my Jewish tradition with deep respect for the traditions, beliefs and sources of meaning that guide you, and for the values that connect us.

The work begins close to home: how we speak and listen, where we have caused hurt, what we need to repair, and whether we give voice to the love and gratitude we carry within us.

Where we have wronged another person, the work is personal: to reach out, listen, ask forgiveness and, where we can, repair.

And it extends outward: to how we use our voices for justice, fairness, compassion, inclusion and human dignity.

May we move toward one another with renewed commitment to choose life, justice, peace and human dignity again and again.

Rosh HaShanah marks a new year as we celebrate the birth of the world.

It begins with sound: the voice of the shofar.

Some notes are full and whole. Others are broken and shattered. Together, they hold gratitude and grief, regret and resolve, side by side. Their call demands to be heard. It demands that we listen.

It calls us to account and insists that we not look away.
What will we stand for? What will we refuse to accept? What will we help bring into being?

“Justice, justice shall you pursue.” “Do not oppress the stranger.” “Choose life.”

Because voice is never only about sound.

Having a voice means giving expression to what matters, moving us toward the world we are called to shape with our visions and our voices: a world of justice, fairness, inclusion, and human dignity.

And even one voice can make it possible for another voice to rise.

Then another.

Then another.

L’shanah tovah tikateivu.

May we be inscribed for life, for courage, and for the strength to raise our voices. by @mannetteantill

Weekends didn’t just happen. Nor overtime. Paid holidays. Safer workplaces.

Workers stood together. Joined their voices. And changed what had once seemed unchangeable.

Because having a voice means giving voice to what matters.

IN THEATERS THIS WEEKEND! 🎬

I’m so proud to celebrate my daughter, Saraleah Cogan, the original producer of WESTHAMPTON, now playing in theaters.

Written and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Christian Nilsson and starring Finn Wittrock, RJ Mitte, Jake Weary, Amy Forsyth, Tovah Feldshuh, Dan Lauria, and Ritchie Coster, Westhampton premiered at the Tribeca Festival and is now reaching audiences in theaters.

We’ll be at the Laemmle Royal for the 1:00 p.m. screening on Sunday, followed by a Q&A with Christian Nilsson. Christian will also be doing a talkback following the 7:30 p.m. screening that evening.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area and have been thinking about seeing it, we’d love to have you join us. It would be wonderful to share this special afternoon together while celebrating the remarkable work of Christian, Saraleah, and the entire cast and crew.

This year, this season arrives without easy language.

Across traditions, these days are sacred,
carrying stories of return, renewal, and what is essential.

This yearries of return, renewal, and what is essential.

This year, this season arrives without easy language.

This year, those stories feel close.

We are living in a time where fear spreads quickly,
where cruelty surfaces without restraint,
where even truth has come to feel unsteady in the world.

And still,
they remain.

Not as comfort,
but as a call.

To stay.
To speak.
To use our voices,
with intention,
with courage,
for one another,
for dignity,
for what is right, even when it is difficult.

And may we find, in one another,
moments of real communication,
where something opens,
softens,
and reminds us
we are not alone
as we reach toward connection.
